I do the same thing, take a photo of them and write down the memories I associate with them, and then throw them. Its quite therapeutic.

You don't cope...I think I mostly just pray the objects will come back in a better form one day. And during a better day.

It usually involves an elabrote ritual in which. I invite all my friends. We drink alot, make a bonfire and scarfice my old stuff to Tigger, the god of lost things.(Which also happens to be the name of my giant stuff tiger....what's the odds of that.)
