in all hoensty if that's all you're going to use it for, you really just need like a 500$ HP. Hell that's what I use for testing servers lol.

We have 3 Macs. One is a laptop I purchased only to DJ at work on. I didn't want to spend much because it will be destroyed by cigarette smoke at some point. I purchased it from a refurb place on craigslist & they had a lot of them. Mine runs fine & I hear most do. See if you can find a place/computer store that sells refurbished Macs. I'm assuming they are refurbs from the ones people trade in at apple.

i also need a mackbook pro but i´m going to go off topic and just leave this here because it seems that it´s going to be relevant in a week or so... i could also be mistaken...

phoebe is always relevant! Anyway, refurb is a good option. unless you find someone who you trust who has one up for sale. You could also try posting in the mac users group if you haven't already. send me a price range, and I'll also ask around if you like. good luck with the search!

Pretty sure I know of a couple people looking to sell theirs as they intend to upgrade to retina models. However, shipping from New Zealand would probably make it a waste of time...

Also, since your intention is photoshop and web browsing, even a cheaper windows laptop will do you right. Anything with an i7 processor would absolutely smash photoshop. Look for 8GB memory and a 1GB dedicated graphics card and you'll be fine. Brand new will likely be cheaper than a refurbished MacBook Pro. Just a thought.

I've bought and used Macs since I was 15, which given i'm 36 now, is over half my life.
currently using a Macbook pro 15" and helped to sort out a Macbook pro 13" for my girlfriend just before xmas.

We used amazon marketplace, for both machines we saved a stack of bills and got machines that were virtually brand new but for almost half retail. Its well worth a look as they often still come with a warranty intact also amazon guarantee the transaction, so you have cover in case of any rogue traders but i've had zero problems on there.
