I acquired a new nerdface tattoo. Check it out!

The issue at hand in the previous journal was solved, so stay tuned.

The past month has been ridiculously busy and full of change. Since returning from Austin, I've decided to relocate north to San Francisco and be at the center of the tech action, surrounded by real people, great food and public transportion. Los Angeles, or rather Fullerton is great weather wise, but just isn't cutting it anymore. So as of April 22nd, I'll be a permanent resident of SF.

I also got a promotion at work, and am officially back into web development playing the role of Front End Developer at the best company I've ever worked at.

For more current and random updates, follow me on twitter. Microblogging ftw.

I hope you're all listening to Homer Hiccolm and the Rocketboys, as they are amazing ambient rock, and MGMT just because they are pure awesome, right down to their website.

Gotta get back to tending to the poor, sick Scopitone so I leave you all with a collection of photos from sxsw and beyond featuring some of my favorite people.

Sticker tags, a brilliant idea from the last.fm folks.. like flaneur

It's all a real shame. I rather have credibility than be portrayed by SG as some vapid drunk girl playing a video game. Y'all know where I'm at.

Oh but hey, G4 featured me for being an actual gamer (and hot)

This long blogging stuff is becoming definitely Not For Me. If you're interested in regular updates, follow me over on Twitter at twitter.com/poshy.

I've picked up a fondness for shooting real guns over the past little while. I wish I could make it a weekly event, but that's very inefficient, and likely the rage build up won't be significant enough to make the shootin' as enjoyable. Okay, that's a lie. But shooting is seriously one of my favorite things to do now. The loudness once frightened me, but now each time I hear a shot fire, I enjoy it a bit more. The whole act is so satisfying. Especially when my aim is on! Last Friday I went, and changed up my targets from the donut eating cup with the wedding ring, to Jeremy Sisto Terrorist and my new favorite, The Hostage target. This target is great, and I wish I had a picture of it to post right now. Basically, it's a terrorist holding a fidgeting woman with what could be a look of fear, but resembling more of a CITM feel. I was really proud. In all my shooting, I only maimed her once! And it was in her arm, which will definitely heal. But him? Oh I shot him in the eye. And the arm many times, so I have no doubt, if that were a real situation, he would have dropped his gun. Television training FTW! Oh yeah, and I shot a big ass shotgun a couple weeks ago. Pics to follow.

But I'm not really gun crazy. I did other things too! Like, go to Chicago! Last weekend I flew out to the cold, icy streets of Chicago for a secret SG shoot with Azula, Daven and Ravyn. Two shoots actually. Daven and I got a little action going on a second time. I took a lesson from Anthony Bourdain and tasted Chicago flavor, which was essentially a salad on a hot dog. It was large, and overwhelming but the celery salt really made it fly. I also ate some frito pie and learned that I really don't miss the snow at all. Nor the cold. Also picked up the new McSweeney's book which is fucking hilarious.

I also went to that Chanology Scientology Protest. It was a very surreal experience. The turnout was considerably greater than I had expected. The Scientology spy trucks were obvious and hilarious. The guards looked as though they were cast for their parts. I welcome being in their hater database.

Next week it's off to Austin, Texas for SXSW Interactive, and boy howdy am I ever excited! Last year was all kinds of fun working with the Red Bull folks and the other SGs. This year, I'm there for professional reasons, as I've organized a trip for my company out there. Also, parties. Really looking forward to the parties.. And meeting Jeremy Keith and Jeffery Zeldman, amongst a bunch of other usability/WaSP folks.

TOMORROW though!! Tomorrow I have to get a ROOT CANAL!!! Not only that, but also a crown elongation. Yay gum and tooth scraping! I'm so scared it's ridiculous. After the terrible experience that was my wisdom teeth removal, I forever fear the dental visit. The sounds, the needles, oh dear. They didn't even give me any good meds. frown

Outsourcing cheap tech labor makes me entirely sad. Sometimes I feel like my entire background in design and dev has been totally meaningless. I need a new project before I fully believe I have no more useful skills. Today is totally an emo day. Weeee!

Remember when I designed ties for a year? Hahaha!

If anyone ordered a print and it did not arrive, can you please send me a message immediately? Thank you! I am still selling prints. Basically from any set from Coup d'Etat. Message me here or email me at posh.suicide@gmail.com with what you want! $30 for an 8x12, but other sizes are available. Let's discuss what you want! smile

Unrelated to sales, I started my night school class this week. I'm taking a Maya class with seemingly the fastest professor ever. With such a complex program, it's pretty difficult to follow what he's saying while attempting to actually do it at the same time. He didn't even provide any handouts. I can understand not wanting to kill trees, but it would be very beneficial to have accompanying materials, even if just a video of the each demo on the course blog. But I'm super excited to be working in 3D again. I'm especially looking forward to not being confused by the software!

It's been a little slow at work this week, so I've enveloped myself in learning. Learning Javascript, that is. Oddly enough, in my 8ish years of web work, I never bothered to actually learn/use it. I can implement a script, and read the basic functions, but as far as writing something from scratch, or explaining that swanky lightbox gallery is working, it's a not going to happen. That's my current goal. Unfortunately I haven't found very many great tutorials that aren't absolutely outdated. No thanks to teaching frames! I've got DomScripting and the Definitive Guide on the way, but I want something now. Can anyone recommend? Right at this moment, I'm reading through Jeremy Keith's stuff. I've got to say though, Javascript sure is one ugly language.

What else... I finally started playing Call of Duty 4. I got over my hate for the lack of online splitscreen multiplayer and have started the campaign, which is fucking awesome. That's my plan for tonight after The Man goes to sleep. And all of tomorrow. And Sunday morning.

Really excited for SXSW Interactive. Pass and hotel are booked. Fried pickles with Illyria!

Lastly, if you're on Twitter, I'm Poshy on there

And here are some photos from last year's SXSW!

Christmas is the saddest time of year. The Christmas package from my family came today, full of random gifts and pictures. Looking through the pictures, I hardly even recognize my family. I can't even look through this box anymore. It's painful. I want nothing for Christmas, except to go home and visit. frown

My new obsession is food porn. Likely due to the barrage of cooking competition shows, and unfortunate and undeniable trendiness in cuisine, I can't help but absolutely love food porn (and cooking). Tastespotting has to be the best site for mouth watering, lustful food imagery. It's part of the NotCot family of blogs which in themselves are all amazingly beautiful. But there's nothing like a beautifully photographed dish to make me want to cook. More and more I regret not going through with Culinary school back in 2000, not that going to school for Design was a bad move. I see all the Culinary students in the mornings on the train, heading to the Hollywood Culinary school, but more importantly, the checked pant wearing students going to Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena. I want them to see my Elements of Cooking book and start conversing about the merits of Veal stock over any other. Unfortunately at a cost of $50,000 for a year's education, Le Cordon Bleu is a little out of the question. On the plus side, The Culinary Institute of America has a substantial amount of books available. And of course, I added them all to my Wishlist. Thanks very much to Swedrock who has helped out in the cooking department on a couple of occasions.

The other thing I've recently become obsessed with is Butter. It's probably a really bad thing to be obsessed with. Alas! After spending a couple hours at Bouchon in NYC, I fell in love with proper butter and have sought out the best possible kinds. I've just finished off a package of Strauss Creamery butter, which was truly glorious. I'm onto Plugra now, and today I am order a butters of the world assortment that comes with Danish Lurpak, Celle sur Belles AND Vermont sea salt butter. Fuck yeah!

Okay, enough of that! Activision and Blizzard merged today to form Activision Blizzard! That will have to be the most profitable video game company around now. See ya later, EA! It seemingly came out of nowhere. That's some pretty big news. I really need to start playing CoD4. I've been focusing on Assassin's Creed though, because I'd really like to finish it. It's a lot of fun. Kind of repetitive, and the town's folk get really annoying after a while. I think I should be able to kill those crazy people that scream and push you without triggering the killing innocents thing. I also wish there were a bit more tactics needed for the assassinations. It reminds me a lot of Crackdown in that everything is just really easy and doesn't really require planning. You can just charge in and wreak havoc.

I'm also playing Rock Band which is so fucking superior to Guitar Hero 3. The customization options are hilarious. I love the whole creation process. My main complaint though, as well as everyone else I'm sure, is the repetitiveness of the playlists in every city. I'm so over playing the same songs over and over again. Except Bon Jovi, which I sadly woke up with in my head. I'm the drum player in the band. It's been funny to have people come over and assume the drums were going to be easy, and then all of them fail horribly and all call out "I'm hitting it!". This is my character, from the band Sans Pants:

And for more randomness.. here are some things I miss.

I miss Canada and snow!

I miss Dr Who! Hurry up Christmas Special!

I miss indoor tanning and weird tan lines.

And lastly, I miss shooting real guns.
