I got two new tattoos last night for the first time in... just about a year. The next one will be in just under a month at SXSW. Anyway. I was out in Vegas with a ton of SGs on Valentine's Day so I missed out on the special at Mom's and getting bro tattoos with jaylin, d20 and lil_tuffy. Alas, special or not, I still needed it.

Representing my love for San Francisco, done by Sam at Mom's:

The second one I got is much bigger, and my first big tattoo. I kept playing with the idea of getting the CSS box model, to represent my love of my career. That seemed too boring tho, and through brainstorming and evolving with help from d20, I came up with the idea for the proper separation layers of a web document, Originally it was just text, then icons were born, followed by the final zoomed, 3d images. Each file represents a different layer, those being Structural, Presentational and finally Behavioral. I kind of love it a lot. It was also done by Sam at Mom's, and he really brought the zoomed concept to life. Also, he was pretty hilarious.

I had a girl's night on Friday revolving around seeing He's Just Not That Into You. The more I think about it, the more I disliked the movie. The previews made it look fairly funny (and I'm not gonna lie, it was funny in parts), but man, I felt like it was talking down to me, as a woman, the entire time. Depicting every woman in the movie as either some variant of crazy, needy and without any personal independence, and all the men being women haters and happily taking advantage of them. It felt like the movie version of reading a Cosmopolitan.

Do girls really act that way? It left me feeling confused. It was so cynic, anti-woman yet cheesy?! How is that even possible.

Anyway!

I need your halps!

One of the main themes in negative feedback I received on my last set was about lack of ideas. Which is true! I've been on SG for what feels like forever, and I am totally drawing a blank at set ideas. Do you have any ideas you would love to see me shoot?!

Also, does anyone have an invite to a music torrent site they could pass along to me?

And check out my flickr!

Thanks so much to avalyn for the video game and to the mystery sock person off of my wishlist!

If you didn't see, last week my Rockband multi set went live! I was super shocked since I didn't even see it queued. In my five years on the site, that was literally the second time to be surprise set. Kind of awesome. The Rockband set was shot in Chicago last year in February. I flew out for the weekend and we shot it in two different phases hours and hours apart and had SO much fun. I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to shoot with! We were pretty much shooting all night. Steve did a bang up job hooking everything up, and Courtney Riot was phenomenal with her graphic design skills. I love that set so much. I'm soooooo happy it went live!

Anyway, it's crunch week at work. We're launching a whole new site infrastructure in two weeks time so it's going to be late nights for the next while. It's kind of exciting really, since our Portal site has become my baby, and I've nurtured the code from the start of the rewrite. I'm looking forward to releasing it into the world, and being at a state where we can scale and add new features with relative ease. Pretty much the past few weeks have been workcentric. It's all I want to talk about, think about, hobby with. All consuming!

Though last night I went out to dinner at an amazing restaurant called Fifth Floor. Jaylin and I were supposed to have a photoshoot at Revision3 but plans fell through. Dinner was the apology. It was pretty much the best dining experience of my life. Every plate was ridiculous. I ate octopus finished with ash! The best dish was probably the seared foie gras with lentils in a duck consomme. Mmm. It was an ultimate, inspiring culinary experience for me.

Eeek! Gotta get back to work! Will update this with some imagery later!

GOBAMA!!!!!

It's been almost two months since my last update. Clearly. So be prepared for a lengthy entry! I took a break to refocus and fine tune my life! And now I'm ready to update y'all on what's been happening!

Well, first off, a huge thanks to everyone that sent me canned goods and food off of my wishlist. I was deeply touched by the outpouring of support I received after the layoff. You guys kept me going for a solid while and I really can't express words to thank you all enough.

The layoff did teach me a couple lessons though. For example, having savings is a good thing! Unfortunately, that's not always possible, especially when you're severely underpaid at your job. The other big lesson I learned is that loyalty to a company is absolutely silly. Me first, me first, me first. A company is an entity that will always think of itself first, and so should we as employees of said entity. And lastly, I never knew how truly good I had it until I was in such a hard place and all of my friends were so, so supportive and helpful. My "Let's get drunk and laid... off" party actually gave me the lead for my new job!

Onto the changes! My layoff was definitely a blessing in disguise. I am SO glad I was laid off from that company. No offense to them, I do wish them the best and hope they can survive this difficult time. But man! Being at a company that fully appreciates me and recognizes my skills and talents is AMAZING! Not to mention actually being paid well! I work at a company called Outspark, which is a game publisher for free-to-play games, primarily MMOs tho. I'm a Front End Engineer on an actual engineering team and I'm leading the front end development at the company. I have an epic amount of responsibility now, and I work with a really smart bunch of guys (with good taste in music too!). Every morning, I wake up and I'm actually excited to go to work. One of my favorite things about working there is that processes are actually correct. We're working in Agile the way we're supposed to. We're building prototypes and then letting the designers dress them after we define sizes, layouts, functions. Everything is actually iterative. Anyway, life is good on that front.

I shot a set of Jaylin a little while ago. Have you all seen it?! Commented?! It's still sitting in MR sadly, but I'm fairly proud of it. It's been a long, long time since I picked up a camera and made a girl undress for me. Shooting jaylin was a blast. I adore this photograph:

I also shot with Fractal yesterday! We shot two sets at my friend Casey's place which will be debuting in the near future. Really happy with them. Fractal is becoming a really talented photographer.

This is getting long, so I apologize! One more update... I held the second CupcakeCamp with my friends Ariel and Marianne. The first one was back in June and was a decent success. This one, however, was an amazing success! We had over 2000 cupcakes registered and over 500 Cupcake eaters show up! Our schedule ended up working out to 9 dozen cupcakes being brought out every 10 minutes. It was held at GetSatisfaction's office in South Park. And goodness, I was glowing afterward. We even had someone fly in from NYC to attend our event! It took a lot of planning, but it was so worth it. Here are some pics from it:

What up, bullshit economy!

I was laid off yesterday afternoon, along with quite a large amount of the company. It's really sad because I really loved The Groop. I wanted to see the company do well. It was founded on such a great principles and fostered amazing talent. It was definitely the best company I've ever worked for, and much like breaking up with a significant other, I don't know if I'll ever find a company as amazing as The Groop was.

That said, this is definitely a blessing. Despite the fact that I literally have $4.14 in my bank account after vet bills over the weekend and rent, and I'm not really getting much of a severance package at all, and I no longer have a computer after selling mine to move up here, I don't feel that bad. But hey, if you want to help me eat, that would be awesome.

In true SF fashion, we decided to throw a Let's Get Drunk and Laid... Off party last night. It really showed me what an awesome friends I have here. They're pretty much the best people I could ever have around. So much support. So much congratulating rather than apologizing for the loss. I see this as a new beginning and an opportunity.

And speaking of good friends, jaylin once again showed how amazing she is and came over yesterday with an adorable care package complete with conditioner, a tiny pumpkin, chicken noodle soup and plastic spiders (naturally!). I hope everyone has someone in their life as wonderful and she is.

Photo blog! No time for a real update. Let's just say things are still going amazingly. Going to the OC on Thursday for BlizzCon this weekend. My BFF Jaylin is joining me and we are going to visit Scopitone. Went to a birthday party on a Naval Warship over the weekend. Pretty fucking cool!

Starting playing around with the fake tilt-shift technique. Miniatures!

And jaylin took some photos of me.. We started shooting a set, but lost the light, so we gave up. These sum me up quite well.
