i've spent today consumed by warcraft. not world of, but warcraft 3: the frozen throne. we've had lan fun going on for most of the afternoon. it's a nice break to my WoW mage. which i so did not buy gold for. nope. not me. never. i don't support gold farmers. and if i happened to be a level 20, decked out in blues, it's just because i'm lucky. and skilled. the other night i soloed the dead mines in search of a santa hat that did not drop off of van cleef. nor did cookie's tenderizer. what was fun was taking on like 20 mobs and swiping them all to death. i picked up age of empires 3 the day before last, but i have yet to install it. i've missed you, pc gaming world.

i picked out my computer on friday afternoon. scopitone rushed to mwave before they closed for me. i had intentions to do so as well, but orange county buses are assholes. of course, being that i've never really picked out an entire computer, i kind of messed things up. first with the socket of my chip, and then i got an agp video card, instead of a pci, but it's all good now. what am i running, you ask? well, email me if you really want my specs. i've got to collect software still. most importantly 3ds max. i'm so excited to be able to start actually building my portfolio.

in totally unrelated announcements, i really like sparklehorse.

okay, time to get back to the lan party fun. but first, photos! stupid and not so much!

i wish i could quit you!

Nice pics.

I would love to play Warcraft 3 again. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my PC anymore. Just keep getting errors and can't find a solution why it won't work.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Blizzard ever needs a spokesmodel there wouldn't be anyone more perfect.

Suffice it to say those pictures are incredibly fucking hot.

3D background artist, 3D enviromental artist, and cinematic animator. I feel bad for the background and enviromental stuff since I just sent them my pretty generic animation reel for it, since my best models (character and background) are in a project that in still in production. I won't get a hold of them until it is finished (hopefully, some companies will be understanding about that).

3DS Max is one animation program I never learned. I am very skilled with Maya, decently with XSI, not very with Lightwave, and barely touched Blender. How is it (if you used it)? Do you have to use the screen cap to texture or does it unwrap UVs like Maya?

From what I hear from the artists I work with, Blender isn't worth using. Programmers designed the interface, is the general complaint. I would think it would have to have unwrap support to some degree.

God I love geek girls. More of a WoW man myself, but damn. Don't suppose you'd want to reveal what server you play on? biggrin

The positions I looked at said 3DSMax, Maya, or equivalant program.

These are the more entry level jobs (I am guessing since they didn't give a timeframe of experience they are looking for), so they might be looking for skill with just animation or modelling. Transitions to different programs are not usually that hard as long as you have the concepts, so I have been told. And when I transisted to XSI after a year of Maya, it wasn't too bad. Hell, I went back to Maya the year after and picked it up just fine (though I had to reteach myself the hotkeys). The only thing is if 3DSmax has a screen cap texturing way instead of a UV map way for texturing that will be somewhat troubling for me in a transition, but even I can reteach myself that (had to do it for lightwave)..

XSI is a pretty good program. Not to widely used in the US, but more so in Canada and in other parts of world. Doom 3, Half Life 2, and most of Nintendo's stuff are done with it, so you can it has a good rendering engine.

Interface is somewhat similar to Maya, but the thing about that is really great is rigging. Rigging in XSI is great cause it is color coordinated so you can see how the skeleton fully effects the model where as with Maya and Lightwave, you can only see how one bone effects the model.

And thank you for the luck. Hopefully we both can get jobs there.

Another great feature is IKs. Any skeleton chain you create automatically includes IKs, were you have to manually put them into Maya. Just make sure to create constraints before you try to do anything with them.

I've been obsessed with Warcraft 3 for the past month. I'm finally on the Night Elf campaign in the original, haven't installed the expansion pack. I'm spending most of my time on WoW though.

My druid is finally level 28 (yay 30! I want that cheetah form) and my mage is 13.

Love the pictures, by the way. Makes Blizzard look that much better.
