Posh Oh, hey you guys!

I’m private

this here goes out to all of you computer nerds, kind of. as i previously stated, i\'ve got to build myself a computer. it\'s been a long, long while since i\'ve touched on this with my mind, and my hands. basically, i need a decently powerful, but not too expensive rig that will be solid enough for a slight bit of 3d modeling and rendering, graphics in general and most of all gaming. clearly, my graphics card is important. however, i don\'t know what is out there, nor where to start looking!

i figure i will start getting components, piece by piece and slowly assemble it. that seems the most affordable way, anyhow. i think i will be getting my parts through MWave out here.

my questions to you, out there, oh wise nerdy ones i love so much:

1) what do you recommend for my core system?
2) what do you recommend for my graphics card, and why?
3) do you have any computer remnants you wish to sell me?

feel free to reply here, or drop me an email at posh.suicide@gmail.com

I've always been a fan of AMD processors. You can get a nice 64bit processor for a good price via MWave. They're ship a nice little bundle for everything including memory and the like.

unfortunately, I don't have this kind of expertise yet. But I will be lurking around to see what others post, as I have been considering doing this for a while as well.

I have a nVidia 6800 Ultra in my laptop and it is very sweet running stuff at 1900x1200 on it's 17" widesceen display..

Another option would be the newer 6800 GS cards they are coming out with.. They are aparently supposed to be a replacement for the GTs and the reviews I've seen sounded good..

If you're doing mostly gaming with just some 3D stuff, then the AMD is generally a good choice.. I know they used to have issues with heavy math work, but it's possible that the latest generation are doing better..

But you definately want to slap in at least a gig of ram in the machine.. I've actually been thinking of taking my one machine up to 2 gig.. but then again, it's running a 5600 FX video card, so it needs a boost there too...

This is my goddamned specialty in life (weep for me if you like; I do). I’m on it. Expect a full treatise on the state of PC purchasing in a day or two.

Hm... I'd tell you what I put in my computer, but it was over a year ago. Not only can I not remember the hardware in there, but it's probably all out of date anyway.

I will say this much: get a CD drive that does everything. I think more and more games need DVD capability these days.

Oh, and the Samsung SyncMaster 181T flatscreen rocks. See if you can get a murloc screenwiper for it. I have to make do with the panda. *points at profile pic* I pretend it's the one that mauls Brent Sienna from time to time.

On a TOTALLY unrelated note.... when you parachuted into those dragonkin, did ya yell "DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!"???

I would have.... but then, I have bouts of wishful thinking involving an Allaince raid that starts with the entire group parachuting into Orgrimmar....

.. but I'm told that's not possible. Oh well.
