“My boyfriend is from the country and when visiting his family for the holiday they playfully picked on me for being a new york city girl all my life and when it was discovered I never fired a gun they decided to pop my cherry... so here is the first and only time I've ever shot a gun, the kick back was apparently hilarious to me (I'm only about 100 lbs) note the uncontrollable nervous laughter.”

Haha yea mkayal, it doesn't look like it but it was pressed pretty tight to my shoulder so it didn't hurt, I'm just a tiny person so even though I was holding it tight it was still a strong kick.

This made me giggle a little bit and reminded me of when I shot a 12 gauge for the first time ever, I was 13 years old, and wasn't expecting it to kick so much because I'd been shooting a 24 gauge all day, needless to say it put me on my ass (literally fell down and was pointing the gun at everyone, but still hit the clay target cause I'm awesome like that biggrin)

As far as "gun control" goes my opinion is everyone should be trained in highschool or etc gun safety and how to properly shoot/operate a gun, I mean the Constitution of the US states that we should have a well armed militia, with all the Sandy crap I even say arm the teachers, more gun restrictions haven't helped the problems we've had with guns since they've been brought into law, it's time to start doing something different instead of the same thing over and over expecting different results.....

I know it sounds trite and ridiculous but it's completely true... People kill people. A gun is just one of endless items that are used. Gun control should only be the training and practice one involves themselves in to handle guns safely and to hit at what you aim and NOT something .

If a gun isn't available, people kill people with rope, cars, drugs, explosives, poison, knives, machetes, fire, the list of items used is endless. Guns get the brunt because while the above examples have 'other' uses, guns have a single purpose for their manufacture: They are made to kill or practice (as in targets) killing.

In those places that prohibit guns is where you find these senseless shootings. And in ALL States that allow the carrying of concealed guns, the crime rate is far lower than before they were allowed and far lower than States which don't allow it. (Factoring population densities and socioeconomic income levels.)

So cover your eyes, plug your ears and shoot a tree. It's a good thing to know and understand the tools at your disposal, as a gun is only a tool, albeit a specialized tool. (You did good...)

I am for responsible gun ownership, and reasonable access to them. I don't think assault weapons are needed for anyone short of the military and specialised police agencies. There are too many checks and balances in place for the government to become a tyrannical force that needs to be over thrown by the people. But hey I'm Canadian, our civil war was a bar fight that lasted a few hours.

Yeah, people wanna blame anything but the elephant in the room, MENTAL HEALTH. Crazy people have access to guns and school shootings happen. They need to do something about all the mentally disturbed people in this country. But of course that will never happen since this IS america. Therefore more of these shootings will happen.

My mother's brothers pulled that stunt on her when she was in her teens...only they said to hold butt about an inch from her shoulder, so it wouldn't kick back and hurt her. She spent years getting back at them for that.

I love the giggle at the end. You're adorable.

As for gun control, only law abiding citizens obey laws. People who want to commit mass destruction will find a way, guns or not. The problem obviously lies with a society that is rampant with people that have no regard for human life, not even their own.

If it's properly seated in your shoulder, you need to get more of your body weight behind it. Left foot forward and lean into it.

I enjoy shooting, but I'm a big advocate for gun control. People kill people, but guns make the job a heck of a lot easier.

Always interesting to see the reaction of taking the first shot. smile

Edit: As a gun owner I am for proper training and education. There needs to be a certain amount of responsable legislation, but in the end it's the person that makes the decision, not the inanimate object.

You did very well for your first time, your Boy friend took care of you.I feel everyone should repect a gun ,that is done by training and education, it is sometimes in society shown as a toy or to be feared,it is a tool to be used . As far as control it`s already been said all these shootings are being done by Mentally Ill people,or people with no respect for life

Yeah, we're from New York; guns are the ultimate foreign object to us. I only ever had access to a bb gun and I can't even aim that. But I will say I really do want to fire a gun just once, maybe a handgun at first, so see what it feels like. That was awesome, by the way. Kicks like a mule, doesn't it?

If you're interested in shooting more, I suggest a small pistol. .22s and .38s are usually good guns for tiny women, especially if you're just looking to go to the range every other weekend to squeeze off a few rounds. Try going to a range and trying out a variety, though. Talk to the female employees and get their perspectives.

Some ranges have ladies' nights where women get discounts on rentals, free ammo, and/or waived lane fees. They also sometimes have themed nights, like zombie defense nights, complete with zombie targets!
