I'm learning to drive. I've gone a very long time without it, and I wish I didn't have to, but it's such a pain in the ass to get around this city without a car and I'm sick of it. No more $50 cab rides! No more stinky bus! I'm hoping to take the test some time this week, and hopefully I pass it.Then freedom. I can actually start going places. I can have a social life outside of work. It will be glorious. Hey maybe I can even take a new set at last since I'll be able to actually meet up with a photographer. I haven't been in Austin long and I work graveyard shift, so I still hardly know anyone. It's tough to get around without a car or friends.

Now my only problem is how the hell to get to the DMV to take the test if I can't legally drive by myself yet. I need to take my car there to take the test, but I can't drive it. Are you supposed to sucker someone into going with you and sitting around at the DMV on a day off? What kind of psycho would go for that? I'm trying to figure out how someone could ride with you there and possibly ride with you back if you fail the test, without actually having to stay there. I've got nothing.

Driver's ed class ... they come get you, you take the test in their car, and they bring you home. You might need to attend a couple of classes too, but the insurance discount will be worth it.

No but really that's what friends are for and I need to get my Texas license as well.

Good luck taking the test. Just hope you don't get an asshole tester. I did and failed, but just barely.

Think you might need to sucker someone, but it's for the greater good. And besides, shouldn't you have made an appointment so you don't have to wait in line forever???

i wish you luck with the driving. i myself have never owned a car, thought Austin would be a little easier to get around.

That is great, being able to get around on your own is great. For me it was great when i got my car but i think i messed up with getting a mustang as a first car because now i can not drive comfortably without going over 80mph lol
