Something is bugging me. The less absorbed I am in my painting work, the more narcissistic I become. Now that I'm taking some time off, I'm thinking so much about my body, health, exercise that my head is clouded and I feel like can't think straight. When I'm painting, nothing else matters. Now I'm thinking about outfits, hair, makeup, stuff that was irrelevant when I only had time for painting. It's as if I just got out of a long marriage and am trying to get back into dating. Ha ha!

Edit: So then I drew this...

We humans are built to oscillate, we function in waves. You're taking a much needed break and attending to other areas of your life. You'll come back fresher and stronger with new ideas and it's going to be fantastic. Let yourself be what you need to be right now but put a date on when you're diving back in. Deal? Deal. smile

The only reason I can see that happening to you is that you feel the need to express yourself. When you're painting, this craving to do so is being satisfied. But when you stop, you're creative side still needs to release so you do it through clothing, hair, etc. Maybe if you still have the time to paint a little bit, start getting yourself some black/white shoes (any style will do) and paint on those. Satisfying your craving to paint, now you don't have to feel so bad about focusing on clothes etc.

I ramble slightly when sending msgs so hopefully that makes sooooooome sense. Hopefully it helps slightly or gets some thoughts going on how to harness this dilemma instead of it frustrating you.

Isn't getting away from painting and exploring the outside world even if it's just hair, make-up, and outfits relevant to painting?

I think it's just the ebb and flow of the creative life. You're an aesthete -- the same force that drives your creativity also likely drives what you call your narcissism, which you could think of simply as making art with your body.

Thanks for the music info.

Perhaps it's just your body's way of saying "Hey, I'm here too! ". smile
