I am super excited! I've been approached by a modelling agency to do commercial print!! Yeah, I'll probably end up as the new face of Herpes Creme Plus, but at least I'll get paid for it. The agency is called Le Cite, a "European based boutique agency in Toronto" (whatever that means). I'm desperate for any info somebody might have on this stuff. I'm supposed to go for an interview this weekend and I want to know what I'm getting into. biggrin

take someone with you and don't sign anything without some sort of professional opinion.
what is their website? if they don't have one, they probably aren't legit.
also, if they say that you're going to have to up front any money, that's pretty shady.
good luck.

I'm wondering if you are thinking of the La Cite modeling and talent agency? They are located in Toronto, and are part of a European concern.

How did they find you? That's really awesome, lady, congratulations!

That would be the agency that I am talking about. How do you know of them? ( :

You know, I don't remember in what connection the name was familiar.

Its not as though I'm in any great demand for my modeling skills and never will be unless 'incipient curmudgeon' becomes an up-and-coming look.

Sometimes I'll go looking for something, and find a lot of things outside of my intended query. For instance, was looking for "Witte Pumps", a manufacturer of those fluid flow and pressure generation devices called 'pumps' a while back, and ended up threshing through many returns pointing to white high heeled shoes (some of which were tres chic, but not interchangeable with the other type of pumps). Over the years I've packed an amazing assortment of random intel into my cranium's attic, and its hard to say exactly how it all got up there wink

Just for fun, took to Google Maps to see if they are located next to a commercial/industrial site, or something else I may have been looking for. Right off of La Cite's address is a large area with a road dead heading into it, and a railroad spur running through it - clues that a factory may be there, but not definitive proof. In fact, it seems to be part of the 'Donald Russel Memorial Park'.

I don't care to speculate on the metaphysical implications on how it is that factories and cemeteries share similar topographic signatures. surreal

Good luck to you on your upcoming appointment at La Cite; happy to learn your knee is coming along, and bummed that you busted it up (last time I read your blog was back when you bought a serger).

If you've got a portfolio and / or modeling resume, bring it.

Ask them lots of questions. Ask them if they've got anybody that is your "type" (exotic, mixed ethnicity (if so, what mixes?), however you're wearing your hair these days, body type, age range, etc.). Usually they don't have your type, if they're asking to meet you. Ask them how often their "developmental" (or whatever breadth of experience you have) book? How many auditions does it usually take to book? Will one agent be your point person or will you be pitched by a team of agents there? What kind of bookings do they do (print, commercial, music video, etc.)? How short a notice do they give you for an audition? What kind of look do they see you as?

Be prepared to answer questions? Do you want to model professionally / fulltime? How far would you travel, and for how long? What are you willing / not willing to do (i.e. changing you look, unfomfortable modeling scenario, work with animals, etc.)? What talents do you have (athletics, music, etc.)

Obviously, the market is very different from Alberta to LA, but these are some of the things that I've suggested that talent keep in mind when going in to meet a commercial agent?

Good luck. I've always thought you were so beautiful, and I'd love to see more women with your look "out there." biggrin
