can't seem to focus on readings ....

As someone with ADD, and focus problems of my own, I can't begin to tell you how many highlighters I go though when I'm trying to make sure I've paid attention to the important points in my reading. I don't go about it by just highlighting "the important parts" of each paragraph, I highlight the important words in each individual sentence. This prevents me from just skimming over the text, as my mind often wants to do. Having two colors of highlighters helps too, as sometimes there are extra-important parts that need remembering. "Studies show" that if you sit down and write out a very brief synopsis of what you read, right after you read it, it sticks with you way better too.

Finding some particular aspect of your classes that's interesting to you, even if it's just one small segment of them, seems to help as well. Then your mind can be alert and on the lookout for parts that fit in with that interest, even if the rest of the material is not that exciting.

When it comes to writing papers, wanting to cover everything is a trap. Find one tiny angle to focus on, and things tend to proceed from there. Hopefully if your teacher sees that there was one little part that authentically caught your attention, you will get Brownie points for that.
