i'm super sick at the moment and don't have internet at home ( i think i mentioned that before?) so i'm not around here as much as i would like.
hopefully that will change soon.
ok, it's a super short update today i feel all weak and shaky, time to drag myself back into bed with tea and Infinite Jest.

UGH

weird monday.
weird and sad mostly.
though the evening was pleasant as we had a mini beer from France tasting and watched the first batman movie as none of us could remember it. (we discovered why we couldn't remember it, it's completely unmemorable)
that did not resolve anything from before though
...
i might be out of a job

Ye Greate Boat Trip 2011

Lets set he scene:
Chris and his 18yo cousin from the US, Kuba, left warsaw a day early with Chris's parents to see his grandparents and would be driven to the town we were picking up our hired boat by them.
Jacek had to take a bus a day later as he had a last exam the day we were going.
That left 4 of us; Rudy, Jula, Adam and me to take the bus alone on the dark and rainy, and rather chilly sunday, at the bright and early hour of 8am.
I shall skip the story of my getting to the bus station, which now resembles more of a very large, very muddy puddle with some buses standing in it rather than a station as you might imagine it.
I was uncharacteristically unprepared for the trip with only a packet of rice-cakes to tide me over.
hello 6 hour bus ride.
All in all it wasn't so bad, my travel companions being amusing chaps and there being few other passengers.
Until Jula realized that Rudy hadn't taken his patent. A patent is like a drivers license for yachts, without it we could not leave port. Ah, the first stress of boats.
It all got sorted out of course, Jula sent her house keys back to Warsaw with Chris's parents who thankfully hadnt left yet, their over protectiveness finally coming in handy, where they passed them on to Jacek who brought them with the next day.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

It did mean that we had to spend the first night on the boat in the port

as innocent as it seems in daylight, do not be fooled, there is a live 'band' and there is a special type of hideous death reserved for all who sing shanties.
With little else to do we hung our 'tent' from the boom to have a more intimate feeling, locked the boat and went for pizza and beer.
I'd like to take this moment to mention that our boat was magnificent. Having been on boats twice i knew what sort of mouldy, damp, 'try not to think about what you're touching" state most boats for hire are in. This one was brand new. clean. not leaky, it even had a chemical toilet (which we scorned of course, there is something truly wrong about sailing with a bucket of feces). It was an 8 meter long, red plush cushion, fast as fuck boat. With a mast that didn't break. heaven.
Back at the boat we were enjoying more beer, joints and sweets we had bought while outside it rained and rained.

it turned out our tent hanging skills were rusty and it collapsed under the weight of collected rainwater. Therein ensued a hilarious scene of 6 stoned and drunk-ish individuals in the cockpit of a boat trying to retie a sheet of plastic in a strategically good way, Now add to that what looked like buckets of water being poured on them repeatedly from all sides. yes yes, quite hilarious.

The next day finally brought Jacek, the keys, some morning sunlight and we were off onto the open lakes with black storm clouds at our backs.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

This was to be a scenario often repeated on our trip; swimming out into oncoming weather, a couple of times though we were rewarded in the afternoon with surprise sunlight.

We sailed around and ended up stopping in the evening at a very nice little campground with a very decent toilet (these things are extremely important when you are on a boat all day) had our first dinner on board and had a quiet evening cloud-watching. Though Adam and Kuba were brave enough to swim in the late evening sunlight.

The next day started out bright and sunny and wanting to make the most of it we cast off without breakfast. Though we did get a free beer for paying the tying up fee.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

All the days flow into each other back and forth back and forth like the rocking of the boat so that i can't tell them apart so well.
There were many instances of putting down the mast to go under bridges or low power lines and then putting it back up. soon everyone knew their small part to play and we were quite an efficient crew. There was many moments of stress about sailing too close to rocks, shallows, other boats clearly being manned by people who don't know the rules of sailing, all speed boats automatically have only very very mentally challenged red-necks on them (this is true), people on jet-ski's are even worse. and so on and so on.

A moment that stands out is swimming out of a canal, where you have to use your motor, and setting the mast back up in a sudden and extremely intense squall that had us all soaked completely in under a minute. despite everyone wearing at least on layer of waterproof stuff.

Or on another day, the sun unexpectedly coming out when we were in the middle of a lake, it finally feeling like summer, celebrating with joints, and some spectacular sailing, everyone getting sunburnt, taking a nap on the backrest of the seat which due to the spectacular sailing was now horizontal, trailing hands in the green water, spying glimpses of fishes in the shafts of sunlight.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Finally making it to a real port and civilization.

real toilets! Shower! pizza! free wi-fi in the whole town! watching Ugly Americans and half a terrible movie called Outlander.

Running away from civilaization, portmasters, ports and all people. Finding a perfect spot to stand 'wild'.

a nearby field with cows and an uppity bull.

Shitting in a lovely clearing full of wild flowers, butterflies, bumblebees. Nothing else makes you feel at one with nature so well as shitting outside. Unsettling swans. A dead and bloated frog being pushed by the waves back and forth against the roots of a tree,

more cloud-watching

kisses

Mostly sailing looks like this:

I am busy.
helping and taking part in surprise vegan birthday parties,
Nomensno show
missing some good sludge bands cause of:
family gathering/grans 80th birthday, was trying on my psyche.
Chris's american 18yo cousin is nice but a bit clingy and not very independent, is tiring to both of us in the long run.
complications.
sunday we leave for a week long 'boats trip" meaning hiring a little yacht and sailing around Mazury, which is a region in Poland with many large interconnected lakes. Sounds nice but the weather forecast, only for the week we're there, is cold, rainy and stromy. joy. my attitude to cold water is similar to a cats ... :/
we will see
Chris's birthday on the 8th while we're boating
stuff stuff, some too early to write about. things.

have some photos of recent times:

i'l be back neeext week to tell you all about boats and such

so i did this yesterday:

in the training round, i flew out of the track:

hahahaha, i landed wierdly and i couldnt breathe normally for some minutes and my back felt weird. but it passed.
in the elimination round i completed the 10 laps in 55.6 sec., in the end not enough to qualify me for the final round which has two people on the track chasing each other.
but i'm very proud i managed to finish and under a minute.
oh and only 3 girls took part, me, a girl i know who is a bike messenger and a gilr who came specially from Berlin for the event. :/ its a bit disappointing

Grrrr ARRR!!!
