I started work this week!
For those that don't know, I has a job! When I was thinking about moving from Ventura, I was considering moving back to San Diego where I've lived for about 8 or 9 years, or to LA. I was sending out resumes to places in both cities hoping to hear from something in one and then moving to wherever I found work. Well I never heard anything so I picked LA. I was very familiar with LA for never having lived here. My brother and many friends are here. I continued my job hunt in LA. Well a few weeks ago I get a call from a cupcakery in San Diego that had received my resume way before I moved. Knowing I'd be an idiot to turn down an interview, I went to San Diego a couple days later to meet with the owner and managers. We all hit it off and they invited me back for a try out the following week, then I was hired!
A little bit about the cupcakery:
- We are not open yet. The owner has been doing catering for large events for the past 2 years and thinks its finally time to open a store.
- It is all organic! The general manager has been having a hell of a time sourcing everything but people are very excited about organic.
- It is in downtown La Jolla in a very affluent area. The location is fantastic.
- We will be doing deliveries in the area! yay!
- I am not the head baker, there is not a head baker really unless you count the owner. I am perfectly content with this right now. After they get a feel for how all the bakers work and who has good leadership qualities they may give one a managerial position. Im still not sure if I'd want that.
- We have a space we will be using for cupcake parties AND classes, and I get to teach classes! This is one of the most exciting things for me. I love teaching. I honestly don't care if they have another baker be the head honcho (as long as they are more qualified than myself and not a jerk) as long as I get to teach classes.
- We are still doing catering jobs until the kitchen and other construction is done. When that happens, we will be there full time to get ready to open.
- Any cheeses we need (ricotta, mascarpone, creme fraiche) will be made in house. Awesome!!!!
- There are many restaurants and bars close by so we will be open late and have karaoke and DJs! How awesome is that?!
Sooooo I'm very excited about this job and I hope we flourish! San Diego is a huge city and I think has only two other cupcakeries.
ALSO, while I was in San Diego this week to work for an event we had, I went to yoga with my boss and the general manager. I love it so I got me one of these:

my mom says its the best mat shes ever used so shes sending me one. I cant tell you how excited I am about it.
Having danced for so long really helped it not be so overwhelming. I've taken yoga before when I was dancing but never liked the teachers and I honestly can't remember which style they taught. I really liked the studio my boss took me to so I definitely think I'll be returning with her again, as well as looking at other studios when I get to San Diego.
I definitely hit a plentiful moment in my life so Im going to get all I can from it and not waste this opportunity.
