hey there internet boyfriends and girlfriends!

Okay, so after much research and googling, I have determined that little Fidel is definately a female. Perhaps I should spell her name "Fidelle". The males of her breed have a dewflap under their chins that they display for courting females, or when they feel scared or threatened to make them look bigger. And, well, Fidel... does not.

For those of you who didn't read my last blog this cutie is the newest addition to my family:

She is a Cuban knight anole lizard.

I went to the pet store today to pick her up some crickets and more greenary for her tank. When I was there I saw they had a male Cuban knight anole! The guy who helped me said they had just got him in, and that they don't get them too often. He was about three times the size of little Fidel, and when the guy opened the tank he displayed his dewflap and it was so pretty!

I seem to have quickly become obsessed with these little reptiles, and I want to get Fidel a companion. I read that they are social animals that do well in pairs or groups, as long as there's not more than one male. I feel sorry for my new pet; being taken from her homeland and being all alone in a new home. As much as I tend to her and play with her, I'm no match for a friend of the same species.

BUT! This poses a problem. Since Fidel is a wild, captured lizard, I'll need to have her checked out by a vet before adding another lizard that may not be immune to something she may carry... but vet visits are SUPER expensive, and I am SUPER poor. Especially since I'll have to bring her to the reptile specialist I brought my snake to... even more expensive

Sooo... I'll talk to a vet and the reptile pros at the pet store, and if all checks out, and it seems safe, David and I are going to buy Fidel a new friend. (That is if I ever get the money to have her checked out...ugh)

Anywho, it's 4:20 in the morning and I should prooobably get some shut eye.
