Advanced Screenwriting. A course I start next week. Nervous! I don't consider writing to be my strength, I'm too visual and I have trouble putting those visions into words.

hmmmmmmm

Any interesting scripts or books or anything really that I should read to inspire me? ... or movies I should watch?

visions for you

also, this is weird, but what do you pack for lunch? Now that I'm working like crazy again I have the need to bring a lunch, dining out every day is nice but expensive. helllp.

I usually pack a sandwich and a small salad or some fruit. We have a microwave and freezer at work so I also take those Green Giant Steamers fairly often. As far as the screen writing goes, Good Luck. smile

Advanced screenwriting?
So you've taken basic writing courses already?

I started reading "Stealing Fire from the Gods" which is about story.
I like what I've read so far.

On Screenwriting: Syd Feild's "Screenwriting" is good for format, maybe Robert McKee's "Story". If you really want to get down and dirty with it, try Aristotle's "The Poetics."

And if you want to be deterred from screenwriting forever, watch "Adaptation" and "Barton Fink."

hello Moxi-

Jeanette Winterson is always good to read-- her writing is stunning- every word is necessary, great imagery, magickal realism -but, as far as plays go I often teach Suzan Lori Parks - very modern and interesting- check out TopDogUnderDog and Snails

I live on Odwalla strawberry C-monster drink and KIND organic cold pressed food bars. smile They actually taste good-- i swear- not at all like cardboard-- it is mostly nuts and fruits- like granola mushed together with coconut as a binding agent-- and some come dipped in yummy yogurt.

well, if you're looking for examples of good, original screen writing, i've listed a few below that have the art of writing for film pretty well locked down.

1. the usual suspects
2. stranger than fiction
3. silence of the lambs
4. fargo
and basically anything pixar churns out.

oh, and p.s, get some pita bread, hummous and carrots.

p.p.s. good luck.smile
