Whoa, it's been awhile since I updated.

1. I don't care what anyone says (because yes, I've seen people on the Internet calling this commercial offensive), I love this commercial:

2. It's been a good couple of weeks. There's been more D&D as per usual (Daniel's character got killed last time around but luckily we raised him from the dead...for the second time in our campaign so far. Eventually dude's gonna start getting grumpy about being dead so often).

3. I also have been reading a ton. I read more Pratchett (Guards! Guards! and Men At Arms), just finished Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book", and now I'm started on Ursula K. LeGuin's "Lavinia". So not just lots of ready, lots of GEEKY reading. It's pretty fantastic. We also still have a ton of books coming in the mail, as we ordered about seven books the other week.

4. For part of this week I was in a nunnery! For work we had a "retreat", which apparently means "really boring thing in which you listen to people talk at you and then don't even get a nice hotel room out of the deal and also there's no TV and no beer which makes Homer something something". We only had to stay in the nunnery/hotel overnight, and I was glad to get home yesterday. I'm also glad I always bring books with me, because I would have been so bored on Thursday night without one.

5. Not much else going on. Life is pretty routine, but in a good way. Daniel's birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to that. Otherwise that's about all!

I use a formula for how many books to bring on any trip:
1 book per 2 days.
Add one book if I am going to something boring
Add one book if there will be no beer
Subtract one book if I am going to be sharing a bed with a lady
Add one book if her family is along for the trip
Add two books if she is in a room down the hall and I am sharing a room with her brother.

Why do people think that commercial is offensive? that's hilarious!

I need books. Many of them. I'm so out of touch since I've been shuffled around and all my shit is packed into my car and an attic and in plastic bags and boxes... I feel scattered. I should get some books... better than rotting my brain with constant netflix.

oh my god. the vocal intonations in the transition between "look down. back up. where are you? You're on a boat..." is priceless.

My friend and I saw that commercial in a movie theater last weekend. Oh, man-I-wish-my-man-smelled like. Dreamy sigh.

So glad you're doing well and not spending too much time in a nunnery.tongue

I am way behind on my reading. Currently working on The Picture of Dorian Gray, which really shouldn't be taking me so long. Next I'm back on to Aleksandar Hemon, who you should really check out. He's a Chicago writer, by way of Bosnia, and is really quite amazing.love

1. Yep, I'm actually a bit offended by that commercial. The guy is hot, though.

3. Your choice in reading material is almost perfect. Throw in some Delany and I'll have to challenge Daniel to a duel. I hope he chooses diamond-studded swords on horseback on a boat.

4. Whenever I hear "nunnery", I have to think of that scene from Monty Python's Holy Grail.

How exactly could anyone be offended by that commercial? How sensitive are we as a society that anybody could be offending by that??? I don't get it. Oh well...I'm on a horse smile

That commercial is, indeed, hilarious.

Have you read all the Discworld books yet? Or is this your first time through? If you'd like, I could bring any you didn't read/can't get for free to Chicago the next time I'm down theresmile

I'm so glad that life is still super peachy keen for you. Awesome people deserve awesome things and so I'm happy when it actually works out that way.
On a side note, if anyone ever uses the phrase "Get thee to a nunnery" you can now say that you have and didn't enjoy the experience at all. (I'm sure people say that phrase to you all the time.)

I just read those Pratchett's too! I think I finally made it all the way through the Watch books, but I could still be missing one.
I sitll have to read Graveyard! Just reread "Neverwhere" which has put me in the mood for more Gaiman than exists on this plane.
