Last night was lots of fun, of course! I met an insanely cute girl, too, who looks a ton like Shayne from the L-word. God, she was hot.

The job interview also went well and I'll hear from them next week. It's office work, which is obviously not what I want to do permanently, but it's in a veterinary clinic, so I'd get to see animals and all the people there seem really nice.

And on a mini rant, I simply cannot understand why anyone respects Eli Roth after seeing Hostel, or why they'd bother to watch Hostel II. He makes shitty, woman-hating (all his films horror films seem to have to include as much misogyny as he can stuff into them) torture porn, and I'm astounded that anyone would mistake his bullshit for good horror. When I saw "Hostel" I had to go and rent five of my favorite classic horror movies just to feel cleansed.

The fact that Hostel II got a 56% (meaning CRITICS actually liked it) on rottentomatoes.com and not, say, a 1% makes me want to scream. Jesus christ, are people really that stupid? And no, don't even bother trying to tell me how you think Hostel: Part II is actually artistic and quite good, because if you did (and I'm using the general "you" here, of course) I can guarantee you that I would actually lose respect for you as a person. Shallow, I know, but I'm a horror fan and watching people actually suck up and enjoy the declining quality of modern horror depresses me. Stop supporting this shit, people!

Conclusion: I dislike Eli Roth so much I actually rue the day he was born, and if I had a time machine, I'd go back and tell his parents to please, please use a condom.

It is sad when a bad movie gets so much publicity when good movies get ignored. Just to demonstrate how idiotic people are when it comes to films, when Grindhouse came out, people left after Planet Terror because they didn't know it was a double feature! And they complained about the poor film quality!

Yeah, people suck! tongue

If it's any consolation, I've never seen an Eli Roth movie. But that's just because I never see movies. wink
I actually had thought about seeing the Hostel movies but now, maybe not. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm glad you had a good time last night and that the interview went well too.
It may not be the job you want for now but it's a good one just the same until the right one comes along right?

Good luck with the job hope you get it.

I don't know if it is because I have seen enough to have become desensitized to it all or the low quality of horror films nowadays but, yeah, I'm with you on raging against the maddening trend of gore and over complicated kill scenes instead of clever film making and plots that are actually scarry often because the plot has a strong aspect of "this could really happen" in them. 28 Days Later pissed me off, Saw II and III might have been a little better if that ditzy chick from Becker hadn't played a key role, and Hostel, your point aside was kind of like if the descendant of Walt Disney's long lost evil brother decided to make his own version of a "kids' " movie. I remember watching Friday the 13th part 2 when I was a little kid and not being able to sleep that night because my bedroom had a huge window that looked out on the forest behind my house. Anytime there was the slightest sound of a leaf crunching or a branch blowing in the wind eeek eeek eeek Needless to say, I didn't watch any horror movies for a while after that experience. Since then, I have seen some movies here and there that make it a little hard to fall asleep but, a lot of the stuff coming out now is just over the top and stupid beyond stupid.

Agreed.
Hostel is ridiculously stupid and boring....the premise could be interesting, if he hadn't only cared about making it the gories and most disgusting movie. It could have had a lot more suspense, and such.

My favorite horror film is one that many wouldn't even class in that genre: Dead Calm. It's just so plausible, and it pushes my buttons somehow. surreal

Alien---> Horror Movie
Blair Witch -------> Horror Movie
The Ring -------> Horror Movie

Hostel, Saw and all this torture stuff: ugly and perverse displays of the obscene and the dark inside of humans. No redemption. No hero's journey. Just ugliness.

If you stare into the Abyss long enough the Abyss stares back at you. - Friedrich Nietzsche.

Some things change you in seeing them. I will not expose my soul to rot. WILL NOT. Eli Roth can take his money and suffer through the slow, slick and wet corruption of his vision.

Yes Morgan, I agree with you.

Hostel was idiotic. And didn't Quentin Tarentino put his stamp on it? I'm not gonna bother with the 2nd one.

I don't like horror movies, and movies like Hostel are even worse. It's slasher porn.

Good luck with the job search!

Sorry I missed being able to congratulate you on graduating in a more timely manner.

If you like Sarah Polley, she has a supporting role in a movie called "Siblings". It's a rather dark comedy made a few years ago. Good luck finding it though.
