Missy At the height of his power Pablo Escobar shipped 70-80 tons of cocaine monthly. A niche product can have a massive audience.

Do bands make great albums anymore? Is it all about one or two amazing tracks and the rest of the album an after thought?

Do you still buy whole albums?

What is the last GREAT album you bought?

When I hear a new band or artist I will get one track try them out and then buy the album if I am really into them, but honestly I have been so disappointed lately. Just heard Butch Walker and fell in love with "They Don't Know What We Know" and then bought the album. ehhhh. I miss the days of Doolittle where all but one song was brilliant.

Now I am just sad. frown

What album should I buy to make me happy?

xoxo

p.s. what is the best Black Sabbath album to buy? Maybe I just need to rock.

chinese democracy was a really good album for me... they are not exactly the Guns n“Roses but the album sounds amazing. About Black Sabbath albums.... any album from the Ozzy years should do well... but I recomend you to start from the begining and buy "Black Sabbath" those where the first Metal chords ever recorded! biggrin

Oh, don't be sad, Missy. I definitely know the feeling, but I promise there's good albums being made. There's just tons of crap to sift through. Beck redid the Velvet Underground's debut rather well. The best album I've been recommended in awhile is the Avett Brother's I And Love And You. Also, Bob Dylan's radio show is usually entertaining and oddly educational, and you can download every episode from http://www.croz.fm/. Good luck finding something you like!

Jeremy33 hit the nail on the head. With the amount of material out there it can be hard to find stuff that suits your taste. Hopefully someone here has suggested something that you'll dig. smile
Here are some recent albums that I've been enjoying:
Oceansize - Home & Minor
Broken Bells - Broken Bells
Sleepy Sun - Embrace
Rx Bandits - Mandala
St. Vincent - Actor

for my money (and it's usualy on metal album) the montreal's own The Agonist "Lullaby for the dormant mind" is probably the best album to not only cheer you up, but give you neck pain from headbanging!

Hell yeah they do; Testament's new album was fucking KILLER from cover to cover.

Shitty radio rock bands tend to put out the one hit wonder albums; nothing special about 'em.

The old thrash metal legends are still going hard though (Although Slayer's new album is kind of Meh... Did I just say that?).

And the best Sabbath album HAS to be Paranoid. They have some other fantastic albums (Self titled, Master Of Reality, Sabotage), but when you take a good look at the track listing, nothing compares.

Anyone that says that an album with Dio on vocals is their is best is simply incorrect biggrin

There is still the occasional album that works as a cohesive whole. The most recent to tickle my fancy is
Veil Veil Vanish - "Change in the Neon Light" That and Brain Donor - "Peace, Love, And Fuck "

"A Voluntary Coincidence" by Helalyn Flowers. Italian synthpop/aggrotech with English lyrics. I love it.

Best Black Sabbath album: "Paranoid", 1970. Ozzy on vocals.

the last great album I bought was Fook by Pigface. I'd had it for years but needed a new copy as it was kinda scratched. I simply don't think there are many good BANDS anymore, period. Shit puts out shit, you know?

As for the sabbath, either Sabotage, Master of Reality or Born Again. Yeah, I liked the non Ozzy Stuff too smile

Nowadays I usually only buy 4-5 tracks of an album.

But last albums I bought and thought were great basically all the way thru "Black Keys - Attack & Release" , "The Dead Weather -Horehound", "Gossip- Music For Men".

But my all time favourites are still: "Portishead-Dummy" and Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes" which I bought 9 years ago.
