I'm happy to report improvement in the little dog I rescued. His respiratory infection was not quite finished when his antibiotics ran out and it came back but I got him on stronger antibiotics and he seems to be perking up. He has been slowly putting on weight and you can tell he is feeling better. He can now hop up on the sofa all by himself. He is pretty good about using the dog door now too. He was horrified of it the first time I pushed him through it. He tested negative for heart-worm and other worms. He needs a dental desperately but I am not ready to put him through anesthesia just yet, per the advice of the vet we will wait until he has more weight and is feeling better. I fear it will be rather costly. One of my puppies didn't lose a couple puppy teeth and having them extracted cost over $1000. Thankfully his health plan picked up a lot of it. This old guy can't get onto any health plans so it'll have to be out of pocket. I'm not looking forward to that bill.

In other news, I have started a new semester at school and I hate it. Hate isn't even strong enough a word. I'm at a new school and everyone else has been there the whole program and I'm a transfer student so everyone else knows one another and knows the program and I have had totally different classes. It is really hard to transfer in. It is far from where I live and the parking is a nightmare. At my last school the parking sucked too but I found some pay parking meters right by my buildings so I considered it well worth the $3 to pay to not have to drive around looking for a parking spot for half an hour. At this campus there are no pay parking meters. Just acres and acres of parking spaces and they are all full.

I'm also a total dumbass frown A few moths ago I got a broken tv on Craigslist and soldered some new semiconductors to the board and fixed it. Yay for me. I set that TV up in my workout room with my Wii fit thing and was just beginning to enjoy some winter wii games when this huge storm hit. It was bad, the house we were buying had a tree blow over onto it and smashed it. (Really, smashed it) and I LOVED the tree. It was the biggest mesquite tree I have ever seen. The same night as the storm hit and destroyed that house it shorted out some wiring in my current house and we had a teeny tiny electrical fire and no power in my bedroom or bathrooms for a while. My husband actually got all Bob Villa on it last weekend and fixed it. Yay for him!! smile While that was happening, I thought I smelled fried semiconductor. I wrote it off to the little issue in our bedroom.

Later when I tried to use the Wii to weigh the dogs the TV would not come on. I took it apart and noticed a couple of fried resistors. Replaced those, same problem. Tonight I was telling my husband how frustrated I was that I couldn't find the problem and how I was going to have to set the wii up in another room. He wanted to look it over and see if I missed a solder or something. I was mildly offended but let him. As we went through it together, I found the problem! I somehow forgot to screw one of the semiconductors to heat-sink when I replaced them! The one overheated and I can tell it is bad. I could totally hit myself I feel like such a dumbass!! Thankfully the part only cost $10 including shipping but I just can't believe I did something so stupid. At least I found the problem I hope and I can get back to wii sporting and keeping up with the dogs weight gain as he gets healthier.

Well that's all for me for now. How are things going in your world?

It's good to hear your rescue dog is coming along, and want to compliment you on your DIY TV repair. Not many people even make the attempt, and sometimes it isn't cost-effective (for instance, as can be the case when proprietary chips are involved), but other times a visual inspection, and requisite skills can save the day.

Curious - was this smoked device in the power supply section?

I'm glad your doggie is doing well. smile I think it's really cool you can crack open a television set and know how to fix it. I would never even begin to know where to start on something like that. I'm a total dummy when it comes to electronics. Hell, I'm proud when I used to have a desktop, I was able to open my computer tower and add a RAM card, I feel like fuckin' Miss Fix It and shit. haha
My world ain't so hot. I have no home, no money, and only a part time job which doesn't currently have me scheduled this week. I'm trying like hell to sell some pictures or art work and I have only gotten one commission, which isn't able to pay me for a couple days... I'm looking for a couch to surf for a couple weeks while I sort my financials, get my taxes done, and hopefully fly to California to live with my boyfriend before March. (I won't have my refund by then. but I'm sure I can have someone forward it to me.) Life just isn't getting any easier after age 30 like everyone told me it would, dammit! xo
