When I had insomnia I was busy working a brain dead job, didn't use it for anything while I was there so when I tried to go to sleep it kept spinning around various things and not letting me drift off. Only way I found to counter that was to read or dive into something that made my brain actually have to work. Once it was occupied and worn out from being used, sleep seemed to come naturally. Might not work in a split second, but it's one of the only things I've ever found to work without taking any kind of pill.

okay....I've had insomnia for three years and even Ambien didn't do a damn thing for me...though if you haven't tried that then you should. Just be careful cuz it can make you hallucinate or drive your car while sleeping.

The only thing that has really, really worked is going to the gym. I've been going every day and I sleep like death. It's amazing. Plus my ass looks better.

Otherwise, drugs, drugs,drugs.

Ok here it is.. When ever I can't fall asleep it is because - i am waking up too late in the morning or just thinking about too many things before going to sleep... here is how I battle it :

1) Always take a warm shower before you go to sleep

2) Before the shower do some type of exercise, even if it is a fast walk, going up the stairs till you are breathing fast, no need for it to be a 30 min work out.. But this is important to get the blood flowing, increase oxegen to the brain and to get the metobolic system up... Then take the shower.

3) Make sure you are not eating late, and one of the best things to eat before you go to sleep are bananas, yes this is the best fruit in the planet.

4) When you have showered, and are in bed, practice breathing deeply inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth, do this various times (5-7 times) and hold the breath in the last two times for 15 seconds and release slowly. What for you ask? Well you need to get enough oxygen into the brain, a injection of oxygen into the brain - in layman's terms - does wake the brain - but it also clears the clogs and rushes blood to the whole body and relaxes the pressure from stress and if you stay calm and quite you can fall into a deep sleep faster.

I really wish you the best, because the day could be so bad when you do not get a good rest. I been there done that and avoid it like a plague. The best to you... MUAH !!!! kiss kiss kiss

Maybe it's a pro wrestler?

I take Melatonin, you can get it at any drug store.

I also do yoga before bed and exercise throughout the day.

Get some exercise but not within an hour or two of bedtime. Wear yourself the hell out.

If you're feeling anxious about something, journal -- download your worries to a piece of paper. Add to-dos.

Try to be as regular as possible about your sleep schedule.

Find a good massage therapist -- helps, just like the shower or warm (NOT HOT) bath.

I hate drugs, but do chamomile tea. Lots of great herbals out there. Oh, right, that reminds me -- put together a bedtime routine that could include the tea, less light, quiet contemplative time (i.e., journaling) or yoga meditation.

By "decent" tips, do you mean I'm not supposed to say "orgasm"? No reason to eliminate the most effective.

Good luck.
