so, yeah, long time no update. life is good as usual. being domestic, helping catch babies, nursing a toddler, you know.
oh, and i'm knitting things. winter hats, blankets, scarves. i love yarn crafts, lol.
vashti is getting so big!
this picture completely defines how the element of surprise should look

the look on her face above is pretty simliar to the look on my face when i saw this

so, that's my update, short, but the big news should make up for it, right? i'll keep you all updated as the time passes by.
ok, ok, ok. i know...it's been a long while since i've updated this thing. and i regret to inform you that this is not going to be all that exciting. i'm married. domestic. a mom.
i cooked a lovely vegan dinner tonight for my husband. a three bean and brown rice dish with peas and corn. fresh garlic and onion too. top it off with a little tamari and i've got a happy and full husband. the baby likes it too.

exciting to me, but perhaps not to the vast majority on this site: i'm up to my elbows in babies being born. not my babies, but homebirthin' mamas' babies. that's fun for me, and surreal, and out of this world.
my baby is 16 months now, and we think it may be time to have another
here is vash "nursing" her baby, just like mama nurses vash.

she smiles all the time, but it is a rarity to capture on film

She has 11 teeth now!!! here she is brushing them

married life is grand, and i can only hope it gets grander (is that a word?). the sex is great, the quality time is wonderful, date nights exist. yeah, i'd say i'm a lucky gal.
um... my compost pile is doing really well, and between it and recycling, we make very little trash. i like that a lot. pretty soon we will have our rain barrels set up. at some point i'd really like to live off the grid and have a greywater system, but that's a ways off. the initial investment will be rather large, but once we do it, our "greenness" will pay for itself quickly.
i guess that's it for now; told you it wasn't all that exciting

24 more days until i get married
i'm excited and i can't believe it at the same time. it's rolling up on us very fast. we've got pretty much everything squared away as far as the details go. i'm going down the aisle to this song:
it's going to be a groovy good time. in the mountains, a bob marley song in the background, our little girl dancing to the song (she dances all the time when she hears music), viejo as the wedding officiant
, yummy pie intead of wedding cake, some daisies on my head, you know, anything and everything that would make a wedding cool
i'll post pics when it's all said and done.

vashti is one year old today!! i can't believe it, she survived a whole year while under my care!!
from little, jaundiced baby

to a toddler ready to take on the world!!

she still seems like such a baby to me though! i guess she'll always be my baby

i'm in mild disbelief that my kid is full on walking and will be a year a month from today. time has gone by sooo fast, but i have managed to burn every second of it into my memory. some days i just look at my kid and can't believe i gave birth to someone so smart and beautiful. i'm one lucky mama. now if i can manage to get her to age 18 without her seeking out therapy i'll figure i did pretty good
so here is a photo dump of the wonderful spawn i repeatedly speak of in my journals. some life of an sg, huh? but, really, i do find it quite exciting. way better than any party or tattoo session. being a mom is the funnest thing in the world if you ask me. i suppose being a wife is a close second, i'll know for sure in a couple months.

guess who's taking their first baby steps??? give up? it's my groovy baby spawn!!
she's growing up so fast- she just turned 10 months old on the 24th and she can say 4 words do a couple of signs in sign language and she recognizes a few more that she doesn't really do yet. motherhood is fufilling my heart beyond my wildest expectations. i rarely, if ever, find it challenging thus far. i know, i know, wait until she's a teenager
i figure we'll just encourage her to be a lesbian and lock her up until she's 30 or so
midwifery training is going well, and is going to give my life all that much more purpose (as if being a mom wasn't enough, ha ha). i can say wth utmost certainty, however, that being a mother trumps any and all professions, as it is the only job that i know of where unconditional love dictates your every move. midwifery is a calling that i felt compelled to answer though, and i am very happy and fufilled from a working to support women and their families standpoint- it will only be more so once i begin practicing on my own (about 3-4 years from now). i also really love babies, and pregnant mamas
what else, what else??? oh yes- getting hitched in a few months- a nice groovy outdoor scene (go figure), a nice groovy man, groovy music; all in all i anticipate it will be my perfect vision coming to fruition. i can't believe i have found the one i'll be spending the rest of my days with- i'm a lucky lady- i can't believe he puts up with my shit, ha ha!
hope you are all well out there! eat more veggies!

i'm a busy mama. i'm also a busy midwifery student. being an apprentice is quite awesome. a couple births are imminent and i am hoping that they happen this week. it's really up to the baby and the universe, though.
so, vashti has been eating yummy foods that i make for her. i have yet to buy a jar of baby food, and don't plan on buying any at all, actually. she eats what we eat, and she can feed herself. not with utensils or anything, but she picks up her little pieces of steamed broccoli or squash and feeds them to herself. she's really into it. she started eating solid food at about 6 months, after throwing a fit everytime she saw me or the man eat something. we tried giving her things in her highchair to play with; spoons, cups, bowls but to no avail. she wanted what we had. now, at nine months old, she's eating solids once to twice a day and getting breastmilk whenever she wants. she even does the sign for milk and says "mama" when she wants to nurse. it's wonderful! i wish she would have wanted to just have breastmilk for the first year (which is totally ok and safe for many babies), but she had other plans. i mean, at this age babies don't get much nutrition at all from solids; it's all about the experience. the boob juice gives her all the nutrition she needs, and despite her eating solids, she continues to nurse just as much- even when i let her sip water from my cup, which she also insists on doing, lol.
vash enjoys walking with her little push walker. she isn't ready to walk without it yet, and i hope it stays that way for at least a couple more months. dealing with her crawling around EVERYWHERE is hard enough! i can't imagine what it's going to be like when she begins walking

she also enjoys hanging out on the couch and smiling, which isn't near as scary for her mama

hope all is well for everybody out in sg land!

ok, so i really should try to update this more regularly, ha ha. things are great. vashti is nearly walking and says "mama" and "dada". she is such a happy little baby, and really enjoyed her first christmas.

not much else happening. i'm enrolled in midwifery school and apprenticing with 2 midwives, so that's keeping me busy. helping mamas have babies is a calling, and i feel that i was meant to answer this calling. in a few years time i'll be doing this all on my own, and i am excited to have the privledge. i'm excited to have the privledge of helping the midwives and mamas now as well.
that's really about it, i guess. so not too interesting of an update. then again what did you expect? i am all growm up these days, but i like it
