To everyone who suggested I get an external hard drive:
Duh, I already thought of that. I have a cheap external that won't mount properly (frustrating), but my main issue is that i can't really live without the files i have on my machine. I've already tried backing up and clearing what I can, but I need at least some of my music (after all, what's the use of having it if i can't listen to it?) as well as my last month's worth of photos, all of my in-progress PSD files, and so on and so forth. My applications, as well, I'm not about to clear off my computer.

Sadly, the solution is not that simple, but thank you all for wanting to help.

I guess I got a little annoyed there that everyone thought I was so stupid that I couldn't have somehow come up with the idea of using an external storage device, so I'm sorry if I was snappy responding to anyone's comments.

I get really defensive about stuff like that.
I AM NOT A DUMB GIRL.
Did you know... that I am a professional computer-user? Yep, I make a living on knowing how to use these machines. So please, please, please give me some credit.

*sigh*

Really, I'm good.
Don't know why my line is so short these days.
Sometimes these things just happen. Weather's changing. Brain's expanding into the vacuum of space and it's oppressive, and cold. Which makes me think of tumbling lifeless from the airlock.

Someone come over and watch hours upon hours upon hours of Battlestar Galactica with me. Now! I'll make my nummy popcorn and we can drink iced tea. And maybe cuddle.

i am seriously (seriously!) getting annoyed with being signed out of sg every five minutes. i even tried changing my password but my login keeps timing out. sigh.

maybe the cookie can't save because i've got zero kb free on my little hard drive.

it's time for a new computer.
it's time to start getting some work done and i can't do that til i have a new computer.
fuck.

i also need a new lens so i can self-shoot a set.
money. it's all money.

sorry to be so negative and frustrated. it's been a weird day. i need to go outside.

things i have been doing a lot of lately...
. blogging
. riding my bike
. getting rain-soaked
. spending quality time with friends

i'm too busy! so busy. maybe not too busy. look, here i am, on the computer. i just don't have a lot of time for sg lately because i can't come on the site while i'm at work and my evenings are almost always full of anything but using the internet. there's so much love and light and sunshine in life and the computer sucks my soul, slowly but surely. i'm sorry!

actually, i should be cooking right now..! i'm going over to a friend's house for drinks and food and conversation. we're going to discuss our impending trip to the america for a music festival. i'm quite excited, i don't go to the states very often and i don't go to music festivals very often so it's quite exciting to be doing both at once. there are all sorts of junk food items in the states that you can't get here. i don't buy that crap anyway but it makes stops at convenience stores way more exciting! that, and the fact that you can buy beer at the gas station...

self-portrait after the why? show

i don't really have a lot of new pictures to share. my external hard drive is no longer mounting and my computer is chock-full so i can't even upload the photos that are living on my camera. it hurts! i need a new computer but i just don't have the money right now, and it's frustrating to know that it'll be obsolete in a year or two as well, just like this one. (my current ibook is three years old, which i guess is okay, but i spent so much! i hate money.)

meow meow. i really hope that starla and i win the multi set prize this month! but, i won't be heartbroken if we don't. smile life goes on, i think. i do want a hot sg to enter the kissing contest with me, though. i really enjoy kissing...

what's your favourite intimate act?
kissing? holding hands? *cough* screwing?
afterglow cuddles?
tell me.

hey look, i'm on the gayest site in the universe.

five things i wish i wish
i wish i could play and record right here at home because i would spend all evening making music
i wish money did not get in the way
i wish i was here and there
i wish i had more pictures in my head to put on paper
i wish your plans were mine too

five things i have been throwing around lately
the word 'love'
pillows
tiny tattoo ideas
never contemplating the future again
memories of touches

five things i have done in the last week
tussling in the sand late late late at night
coffee on the porch in summer sun with lovely people
13 hours straight of firefly
the baking of muffins
complimentary heckling from a pub patio

yep, stuff like this actually happens in my life. i happened to capture it this time...

don't smoke kids. lindsaysdiet makes me squirm in my seat

did you know that i have a website?
what would you like to see on there?
i am thinking of opening up a little shop in which i will sell hand-painted tshirts, paintings, perhaps some 1" badges, and other miscellany. things that i make and things that my friends make. maybe some cds.
can you think of anything else you wish my website had?

tell me your favourite way to spend a saturday (or if you are one of those people who does not work a monday to friday schedule, your saturday-equivalent).

Hey, you. My new set with Starla went up. Go look at it.

Music, lately
Atmosphere, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Why?, mix CDs from girls

Superficiality, lately
Patched my jeans. They're punk fantastic. Still need a new hoodie. Something fierce, or so they say.
Got my hair cut.

So uninterested in wearing makeup. Who needs it? I do not.

Romance, lately
I like everybody. And sometimes they like me back. It's good.
I was going to collect and post all of the quotes about love that were left on my last entry but nobody else seems to share my views on love. That is, I love love and I love falling in love and I want to do it as often as possible.

How I've been spending my time lately
Wouldn't you like to know...

I've been painting a little bit.

I'm so into watercolours and inks right now... I want to paint and paint and paint. I need excuses to paint, things to paint. Girls. I only paint girls, really.

I have this habit of filling up my schedule with social events and not taking enough time to myself to cook, read, work on websites, paint and draw. It's starting to wear on me - but I don't know that I really want to change it. I guess I just can't say no. I hate the feeling of missing out on things.

zoom image

Sleepy nights are okay, too.

I wish I woke up with a warm girl in my arms every morning. I'm still allergic to monogamy, though.

Are there things in your life you don't make enough time for?
Or things you wish you had time for?

Tell me what those things are.

DID YOU KNOW...
The word 'malversation' refers to corruption among public officials. (And I thought it meant a conversation with me! Ba-dum-chhhh)

SKID
A person, generally young, who wears dirty clothes and has messy or unkempt hair. Skids wear rock band tshirts, skulk around in packs downtown or hang out on street corners, and are what some may refer to as 'undesirables'. Typically jobless, skids rarely have any money to spend.

NOTE that the term skid has recently been reclaimed by the hipster crowd. I have coined the term 'skidster' to describe these types; they drink PBR, wear dirty jeans, and hang out at dive bars in the DTES. I probably fit this definition better than the original term.

More definitions for 'skid' at UrbanDictionary...

My social experiment was successful. We have determined that 'skid' is a Canadian term. SKID ROW FOREVER!!! As Tamara said, "haha, i'm from alberta, i totally know what skid means..."

And if you really want to see what a skid is:

ladyexxa says...
Skid Life: http://www.skidlife.com/index.php/article/show/id/110

yesssssssss
actually, kinda lame after 2 seconds! like a skid.

Meshell weighs in...

I got called a "dirty skid" in high school every day because of my doc martins and marilyn manson tshirts... not really sure what skid means.. wasn't the actually definition "street kid in distress"?

sarahg uses the word 'scrub' to describe something similar.

Following is a dictionary of local slang compiled from the comments left on my last entry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

86'ed or 86ing: Kitchen slang. 86'ed or 86ing something means your out of it/getting rid of.
- GeorgeLiquor

A-LAR-bage: Say loudly, heavy emphasis on second syllable, use bad Italian accent. Means "garbage." Throw something while saying it.
- ladyexxa

Bag lady shoed: Any black ballet flat wearer is a bag lady with broken dreams. Right?? "oh you're all bag lady shoed out."
- ladyexxa

Brain wanking: I use it to refer to endless mulling over things, not thinking about having a wank, which bizarrely a lot of people assume. I think it's a fantastic creation and am ever so keen on spreading this neologism.
- Moira

Chate: Where I grew up, "chate" was slang for "cheap" or "lame." If you ever hear someone say it, they are 110% from Oakville, ON.
- fluxuation

Chuch chuch maruch: pretentious articles of clothing, accessories and the wearer. Shiny oversized sunglasses are a good example, and you use it like so: "Well YOU are looking all chuch chuch maruch in those glasses."
- ladyexxa

Chuffing: fucking, as in 'fucking hell' and not the act of fornication.
- Napally

Effervescent: BellJar's favourite word. Please give her excuses to use it.

Fluff Neck: A weak or delicate person. Some one with no business being a rough neck.
- marksman303

Foccacia: Where the focaccia mate? (as in, the bread) and it means "Where the fuck are ya?" or ... How the focaccia bro? is, similarly, "How the fuck are you?"
- Goldfish

Fucktard: Something Rosaleigh says a lot. She is not sure if it counts.

Hyper-gnar: More gnarly than gnarly.
- Tristan98103

Jamballs: similar to, yet stronger than awesome... like giving a high five on a roller coaster.
- dronehymn

Kief ('Keef'), keef, kiff: (Something that's nice.) Like the all-encompassing "nice", used by semi-literate English speakers the world over, it can be used in any context, and is a convenient way to express a limited vocabulary. "This chow is kief ek sê." (This food is delicious I tell you). "I just had such a kief wave." Can be spelled keef (drawing on the syllable emphatically) or kiff, a shorter, sharper version.
- navanod

King: Good, great. Dude, that is so king!
- bhavok

Lank: (A lot, much, many) Originates from the Afrikaans word lank ('lunk'), which means "long". Now it's used as an all-encompassing South African adjective to boost the size of things, whether objects, emotions, or whatever. "There are lank people in the water.", "I dig her lank." or "He's lank horny."
- navanod

Mardy: annoyed/pissed-off, i.e, "I was feeling so mardy with her anyway..."
- Napally

Mawngy: apathetic, sullen, sulky. Usually used in the third person, "She's a bit mawngy today, isn't she?"
- mat8drb

Nose Bleed: Also, I was tired of hearing "hardcore" all the time. So a few friends and I replaced it with "nose bleed." It didnt really take off, but I still use it. I'm a loser for it.
- SpidersAndArrows

Stoked: (Totally amped up, revved up, happy) "The oke was so stoked after making that wave."
- navanod (and me, too)

Tune ('Choon'): (To tell, to talk, to provoke) For instance, "Don't tune me grief" (Don't give me your bullshit) or "Are you tuning me kak?" (Are you giving me shit?). "Tune me the ages" (Tell me the time)
- navanod

Use the Horn: Put some effort in. Example; "Use the horn, chules."
- punchdrunkblake

What's the score?: its similar to saying " so what's the deal or what's going on?"
- bhavok

Wonky: Aka: weird, odd.
- crayolacrayon

Your opinion counts:
Give me your favourite quote about love.

Words that are great right now:
Keen, boss, gnarly

Piana, Grizzly Bear, T&S, Kaki King, Weezer (as always), Tracey + the Plastics

My favourite black jeans which lost their stretch long ago and which are now developing an ever-growing series of holes in the crotch area - despite my patching attempts

Current problems:

- I need new jeans (see above)
- I also need a helmet and lock for my bike-cycle
- Fuck.

Current awesomenesses:
- My BFF is in town, wahoo

- I'm back in Vancouver, it's the mother-fucking best
- I rule at Scrabble, which is not to say I win very often

This is me when I was sooooo eighteen.

Hey, I have a question for you guys. If I were to say "I am such a skid" would you know what that means?

Share some local slang in your world that I might not know. Let's learn!

1. I need a new profile picture. Like, stat. If you make me one (235x175 pixels) out of any of my recent photos (you know, the ones of my face) I will be super happy. And may use it. I just think that not a lot of nice photos of my face have been taken lately. Bummer.

2. I updated the Glossoreigh today.

3. I got a job. Go Team Mal. Monday to Friday styles.

4. I'm back in Vancouver - and my apartment is so cute. Thanks to my super fucking rad roommate who found it and even paid my first month's rent for me because she's the best.

5. I get my bicycle back soon. Hurrah.

6. Here's a photo from the Dominican Republic.

These kids don't have a lot of clothing or food or medical care. Want to help out? Check out the Sosua Kids website and get in contact with them. (The group will soon have their very own website if I have anything to do with it...)

7. I want to start doing yoga. Daily. Or at least a few times a week. To Bikram's or not to Bikram's, that is the question...

8. Your turn: list three things that are making your week super rad. Don't be negative. You know it only makes things worse. I want pure positivity, no matter how shitty you feel!
MARCH 1, 2008 @ 12:37 PM | 81 COMMENTS

So my trip to the Dominican Republic was pretty rad. I spent time with my family, and got to know my brothers better, which was really nice. I'm glad I went. I also visited some villages populated by Haitian refugees and Dominican families... I helped operate clinics (we set up in the schoolhouse) and fed old people and met children and some truly, truly amazing souls. The joy and love I encountered there is unrivaled by anything I've experienced anywhere...

Now I'm back in Calgary for a few days - then it's off to Vancouver - I'm moving back (hurrah!). I wasn't sure it was what I wanted but traveling alone and spending so much time with my mind helped me to learn that friends and family are what make places worth living in. I am a lucky, lucky, lucky girl; I have a wealth of amazing friends in Vancouver, and everyone else should come visit me, gosh darnit.

That said, I still want to live in Sydney one day.

I'm going to school in September, finally. Yes, I actually will! I promise! I'm registering for classes and everything, and I'm really excited. I'm getting my life in order... (and that means I have to pay my taxes too.)

This is me at Lavonne's house... I took pictures of her, too, but I got really nervous because she's such a great photographer...

I have so many big, big plans for this spring and summer. So many people to visit, so many projects to start, and of course a new home to live in and love! I got rid of most of my things before I left for my trip to New Zealand and Australia, which I sort of regret now... I had some neat stuff. Oh well; so it goes.

(The morning after.)

Speaking of regrets, today I listened to "A Plea From a Cat Named Virtue" by The Weakerthans and cried a little for Mosley, my lost kitty. I regret leaving him when I did. It was rash and now he is lost, without me. I hope that someday I see him again. My heart aches. He is a very, very special guy.

What have you lost which you wish you'd had the presence of mind to keep an eye out for, but which is now gone?

27/02/08 I am back from my holiday. But now I'm playing Rock Band, and my days are kinda... full... for a while. So I'm only sort of back. And then I'm moving back to the coast and I have to find a job. So if you've sent me something, it could be a while 'til I respond. Sorry!

11/02/08 ATTENTION, YOU! I am not around right now. I am away on a sweet vacation for a couple weeks. So, like, don't be offended if I don't respond to your messages and comments, okay? It's not you. Really. It's me.

lately i've been crushing out like mad. maybe it's because i have no actual romantic prospects at the moment, but i'm definitely a member of the teen girl squad. "i have a crush on every girl!"

zoom image
(i'm going to eat your soul)

i got my hair cut the other day. tried to preserve the length while keeping the shape. i now have a fashion mullet. i think i'll just get it all chopped off. who am i kidding? despite what y'all say, i definitely look better with short hair.

zoom image
i've been playing a lot of scrabble lately.

life is too easy right now. i'm broke, but that's okay, because i have no expenses. i've been staying up late on the internet and waking up mid-afternoon, like i did as a teenager. on tuesday i'm going away to the caribbean for two weeks - i'll come back with even more of a tan. ba-zing!

zoom image

as if i need the relaxation.

if you could go away to any location on the planet right now, completely alone, for a week, with no internet or phone access, where would you go? what would you do? what would you hope to learn?
