aug 19 2010: BYE Y'ALL. i'll be back after i heal from my surgery.

thank you for all the birthday wishes. i am now 25 and it feels exactly the same as 24, except that my bank account now costs me $7 per month, as if i have any more money now that i am 25. in fact, i have much less money than i did when i was 21 and 22, when i worked full-time in an office making websites.

my girlfriend made me these beautiful rainbow pancakes and left them warming in the oven for me when she went to work on the morning of my birthday.

later that day, for the first time in my life, even though it happens every year on my birthday, i saw the perseid meteor shower.

on friday i celebrated my birthday with friends and ate a rainbow cake, also made by my lovely girlfriend. oh, i love rainbows!

zoom image
the icing was nut butter and walnuts... it looked gross but tasted absolutely delicious.

this is approximately how drunk i got on my birthday party day:

whew... rosy. then, over the weekend, we celebrated nine months of love together, which involved a trip to bowen island.

all-in-all it was a delightful weekend and i'm afraid i now have almost 200 unread emails in my inbox. *sigh* so overwhelming. does anyone else have trouble with those types of obligations? after five days offline i'm afraid even to check facebook. i sometimes have nightmares about how many things i have to do that i haven't done.

what does that say? oh... vegetarianism? right! another HUGE part of my life is my dedication to an ethical vegan lifestyle. that usually takes the form of trying to help other people choose better foods and food sources in their own lives as often as possible. so, if you live in vancouver, here are some places to get vegan pizza. yum.

Those pancakes do look delish...i'm envyous. I was at a party the friday night and saw only a couple meteors BUT saw one awesome one. It seemed to stay in the sky forever, then it bounced off the atmosphere. I looked like a giant check mark. Tres awesome.

happy 25th.

I hear you about the inbox situation...
At times like that (most days really) I try to remind myself that while my work and friends & acquaintances around the world are important, the people in my life, that I see day to day~ are more important. If only because living in the moment and in a non-virtual world is what living is all about! Da?
Oh and P.S. those pancakes look amazing!!!!!!
Glad you had a nice Birthday Lovely love

Woah, those pancakes really put the "cake" in pancake, don't they?

The desert takes a long time to grow on you. After the first couple of years (yes, years), you start to notice its beauty. It never beats you over the head with it the way a place like Vermont or British Columbia does. The thing that did it for me was discovering little cacti the size of pincushions with beautiful rainbow ring patterns on them (somewhat like your pancakes, actually). They tend to hide in amongst rocks where they don't get trod on. And then there's the flowering of the prickly pears. And the sunsets during monsoon. But it's a very hard place to live.

i actually still don't know what your bio-sex is and i have decided that i don't care. i just interact with you on a personal level, anyway. it doesn't and shouldn't matter.
