is it time for a new entry yet? is one month long enough? i'm sorry, everyone! i put a lot of time and energy into these sg journal entries so to best regale you all with photos and poetic nonsense about my charmed life, so sometimes it needs to wait a bit. i refuse to half-ass things!

it is now february second. the olympics, they are drawing so near! the city is starting to shut down. bus routes are a-changin', venues are opening, lives are being turned upside down... and i have booked a two-week trip to beautiful, left-leaning portland, oregon, where i don't have to deal with this shit at all. i know, i know - i'm escaping - like eco-anarchists moving to the forest, like the shyster bastards they are - but i feel powerless and frustrated and hell, it's a great excuse for a vacation.

speaking of the olympics, jay black did this amazing photoset of quatchi, one of our cartoonish olympic mascots, homeless in vancouver's downtown east side (for more information read about the DTES on wikipedia). it's fucking brilliant activist art. here's a sample:

(i didn't take this photo. click for the story...)

so, in the vein of photos, i've been going through all my old stuff lately getting things prepped for print. i have never printed my photography. seriously! so, if there's anything in particular that you would definitely buy from me, let me know and i'll do my best to offer it to you.

i cut off all my hair. it's very short now.

and i've been channeling looking like a boy. sometimes.

but not always. i picked up these badass used cowboy boots recently and have been stomping the halls with 'em.

things i have been working on:
- cleaning out and organizing my living space
- seeing old friends
- avoiding the procrastitrain

things i have been doing way too much of:
- tumblr (oh yeah, and i made another one)

it's almost spring here, guys. there are buds on the tree outside my window and i've seen a few crocuses getting ready to peep their heads out.

buds on the tree? wtf, temperate tidal flats. i bet we'll have some more plug-the-car-in days still

i would totally leave for the duration of the O if i was there too, fuck that noise. it would be wrenching to see one's city invaded by one million foreign yuppie tards....i hope you recognize it when you return. i want to come, i have three high school friends in portland i haven't seen in a couple years that i miss rill bad.

also i am so in love with that SHELTER FULL flickr set, poor mini quatchi, what will you do about that language barrier before the cops beat your ass and dump you outside the city limits? maybe they'll load him and a hundred other hobos on a boxcar and courtesy-ship them back to alberta for the impending warm months

Been wondering about you. Glad you appear well.

Not to miss the point of the photoset or anything, but I love that Quatchi toy, it's so cuddly. We sold them at work last year. He also does look very homeless.

Those are great shots of Heal St. - you know what's funny? I was literally just leaving Kate a message about a dream where I went to surprise-visit her and the light in the dream was EXACTLY the same as in the last shot out the windows. You know she moved in next door right?

That photoset of Quatchi is fantastic. Way better than me just complaining about the Olympics and the homeless situation, he actually did something that may wake people up.

olympics are to be avoided. i love the photo essay on vancouver homelessness, a chronic condition in canada's warmest left coast city.

i'm keeping on with my professional wrestling with policy change in the golden state of decay

haha that's awesome about the mascot, I wished they weren't so expensive cause that one in particular is so cute ! biggrin You're running away from the Olympics ? In a way I don't blame you but in my case I wished I could go back in time to be at the Olympics in 76 around here... so I'd definitely want to be there to see what it's like.

man I wish I was getting out of the city for the olympics. I kind of think people are going to need music therapy more than ever anyway.
