EDIT: My computer's back - I have a lot of catching up to do! I'll get back to you shortly!

My computer died!

Right after I had a chance to view Miss Lavonne's AMAZING set the other day, The White Queen powered down and refused to power up again. She became, effectively, a rather attractive and expensive paperweight. Ah well... life goes on!

I have actually really been enjoying my freedom. No obligations, and I've gotten so much more done without that time-waster that's the internet glaring me in the face all the time. I've been wishing for a computer-free life for some time now and I'm definitely enjoying it... but it'll be good when it's over, too!

I've spent lots of time with friends recently which has been grand... wish I could post photos but I haven't a machine to upload them to currently. Hope everyone's well!

Much love,
Malloreigh

P.S. If you were transplanted to another location for a year, a whole year, and you had to live there and work there (assuming you could legally work there), where would it be - if you could choose? What would you do (remember, you have to be qualified for it and able to do it)? What type of place would you live in? Would you return to where you are now after the year was over, stay there, do something else?

You... without a computer? I can almost feel the flakes forming in hell.

Wanderlust striking you again eh? My current fantasy involves Portland, and doing as little as possible. I'd live any place I could afford/beg/borrow/steal my way into, and if/when I grew tired of PDX I'd certainly give Colorado another thought. You'd probably like Boulder a lot.

I've always wanted to live in Seattle.
Job, Printer/Artist.
Would I ever return home?
Depends on how much I like Seattle.
"Or maybe Vancouver" confused
And how are you? smile

I pick Milan, Italy with London,England coming in a close second.
Work as a Financial analyst for some mutinational corporation.
I guess at some point i would have to go home. But it might only be temporary. I have always wanted a reason to leave my current place but have never found a reason compelling enough to do it.

tough choice. i'd have to go with BC, actually. after having spent 5 whole hours in vancouver before i had to fly back to montreal, i pretty well fell in love with the city. either that or dublin doesn't sound so back. or oslo. or tokyo. erm.
PS...i picked up Sarah Kramer's "La Dolce Vegan!" today and was reading through some of the [delicious looking] recipes, and came across "Malloreigh's Mushroom Gravy". Coincidence?

Japan. I would definately go back to Vancouver on occasion. I think I would work at a cafe or something in Tokyo where I could help translate to the English speaking. Just not ESL teaching, Im not a fan of 20 5 year olds screaming in japanese. haha.
Your turn, where would you be? what would you be doing?

I've had two one year opportunities overseas that I didn't take/pursue and I always wonder about. The first was in Africa overseeing some very interesting logistical problems. The second -and to be honest this one was never on the table on the table -was working with the Rwanda War Crimes Tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania. I just couldn't apply because I had no way to make the money work. The logistics gig was paid, the Arusha gig would have been essentially a volunteer job. I have no doubt I'll make it back to Africa someday.

The very awesomest kind of awesome news. tongue

I've had an expense waiting in the wings that I figured would be at least $20K and could have been as high as $30K. I just found out that it is only $10K.

Due to US tax law changes I've still got another $10K expense coming in the form of a higher tax bill, but saving $10-20K on this other expense makes a huge difference.

Transplanted to another location - Hmm, I'm already doing that. I chose to be transplanted to Iraq for a year. I've just finished my second year and have signed up for a 3rd. Since I changed companies, it will end up being 3.5 years. I love what I'm doing and feel like I've definitely returned to where I belong. Jan/Feb next year I'll make a decision on a 4th year. I guess you could say that covers the "would I do it again" portion of your question. smile

What comes next? I don't know yet. I could see going back to Texas. It would be good to be near my folks and I've got nephews and nieces there to spoil. Their "Unc Bri" is kind of a mystery since they don't get to see me as often as their other aunts/uncles. They do know that I'm the big funny one that brings the most fun stuff home with me.

There is also a good possibility I could go to some other overseas location when I'm done here. It is a ways out and I'm not worrying about it yet.

How about you?
kiss
