SuicideGirl: Malloreigh

Malloreigh isn't very good at performing her culture's gender role norms.

I saw Cat Power tonight - of course I coatchecked my camera (with the old scratched-up lens) without even thinking that perhaps, perhaps, I'd want to take photos of the most charismatic woman in the world. Believe it or not, I hadn't even seen what she looked like before I went to the show; I just enjoyed her music. God was I ever blown away. The whole band was ill and she couldn't hit the high notes but the show was still fantastic.

Tomorrow night I'm going to see The Be Good Tanyas. A girl I know from facepainting, Ora Cogan, is opening for them. I've never seen her perform so I'm pretty excited for that. And inspired. I want to paint, paint, paint... I need some wood. I want to be Audrey Kawasaki. Japanese and talented. Life would be good.

Here's my travel itinerary as thus far planned.

August - October 2007: Montreal, Quebec
October 2007 - January 2008: New York, America (I have this picture in my head of living in a shitty apartment in New York in the winter, taking the subway, painting and smoking a lot, and hanging out in laundromats to keep warm.)
January 2008 - February 2008: Gaviotas, Colombia (The world's most amazing eco-village)
February 2008 - Who knows?: Panama

Of course I doubt any of this will pan out as planned... but we'll see.

Here's a photo of a random guy on the bus. Stealth!

Here's a photo of me being childish and wearing a parka.

Chan is a very interesting character. I'd love to read her biography or even talk to her for awhile. I'm sure my life would be changed in some way from the experience.

you really look like a child girl on this picture, that is extra-cute.

And Cat Power, I haven't seen her face either. But a concert , lucky you!

You plan your trips way sooner than I do. I usually don't decide I'm going somewhere until a couple days to a couple weeks beforehand. It makes for some interesting pricing options, you'd be surprised at what you find last minute. I'm way too impatient to wait months for something.

Lately I've been in the habit of just walking to the car rental place, and spur of the moment deciding on where I'm going for 24 hours. The last time I did that I drove through Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, the Oregon Coast, stayed at a hostel on Seaside and ended up in Astoria, OR (where they shot The Goonies!). It was rather awesome.

Have you seen Stealing Beauty? I only mention it because I just read your "Lost My Virginity" response. If you watch it you'll see what I mean.

Don't you just love the feeling you get . . enjoying a live performance? Especially when you know the performer!

I love that you're making plans to go out into the world and experience things! You have a wonderful spirit of adventure, that will serve you well, throughout life!

There's a little tiger behind that innocent face, huh? wink

Yeah, it's a movie directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, one of my favorite directors. He did The Dreamers, and Last Tango in Paris. That alone warrants a watch, but there's a scene in it where a very young Liv Tyler loses her virginity to a Mazzy Star song.

It also has one of the best soundtracks ever made. It was thanks to that movie that I first heard Portishead, Liz Phair, Mazzy Star, Sam Phillips, John Lee Hooker, etc. I can't believe it's been 10 years since it came out. I'm getting old!
