Kafka was insane. Because of that it is hard to tell what of what he said was profound and what was insanity. Always keep in mind that his work contains both and nobody knows for sure which is which.

If you have to read Kafka, try doing it while hanging upside down, in a room of mirrors while chanting Buddha's path to enlightenment. Either you will gain complete understanding, or you'll pass out. You reach the same destination either way.

That article is very well done, but uncomfortable as well as I have struggled - especially over the past year - with that feeling of numb horror and paralysis over the US and its actions in the world. The left shouting "in a soundproof room" is particularly disturbing. It's disturbing that 1,000,000 people - mostly in Europe - protested the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and our media barely mentioned it.

So... read Kafka, but keep a window open to let the sunlight in.
