Y'know, after all the horribleness of the past few months, it's nice to just be feeling... calm.
No particular reason, although some great friends have done their part. Just happier.

It must be admitted that I'm childishly obsessed with the holidays. I've been happily moving through the Christmas Specials of every TV series I adore. (I'm saving the Muppet Christmas Carol for Christmas Eve!)
As this has to be passed on:

Happy Chanukah! I have made great latkes and many rounds of dreidles.
For an early Christmas present, the SG world has gifted us the very sexy (to which I can personally attest
)
Ginary

Ginary - Rubber Side Down
Leave it some love, we need to get more of this lady.
And with presents... I don't often post this, but with my family situation (read a few blogs back) I'm fairly gift-less this year (silly, I know), so anything to go under my menorah would be most welcome. Wishlist
Happy Hanu/Chrisma/Kwanzaa!
(And thanks to all for the kickass Christmas cards I've been getting in the mail.
)

Upcoming Excitement:

Did I mention latkes??
Happy Holidays to All!

One in which I lose a lot of family members, in a week.
As much as I'm not fond of depressive ranting blogs following each other, I'm venting, feel free to skip this and head to my older blogs including the fun and the lurid pictures...
On Monday, I start getting calls that my maternal grandmother is MIA from family members. My parents, who refuse to answer the phone to us, runs the message through our account manager that she's "fine." On Wednesday, I get a call from my cousin: She, on a hunch, contact the cemetery where she owns a plot: My grandmother is buried. Date of death: May. My parents have been hiding this for six months. Cashing the care checks sent by family and keeping it, stealing thousands of dollars. Emptying out her apartment, filled with tens of thousands of dollars in jewelry and other valuables. Flat out lying. To me, to the rest of the family, stealing it all. As has been my brother.
The next day, I find out that my paternal grandmother had passed last week from another cousin. My parents lied and hid that from me as well. As did my brother.
I'm living in a bad movie plot.
I'm grieving for my breakup last week, for my grandmothers, for the family that I'm now cutting out this week. Drinking, smoking. Trying to process it all.
It's been a long week.

Is sad emo breakup lady today. I can't decide if I'm rational, or sad, or angry. Gah!
Bring on the whiskey and smokes!

Zombie Nurse Maddigan!

The lovely undead Dino and I.
Continued with Rambo and Bob

All decked out for a video game release party. Honestly some of the most fun I've had in awhile! Great girls, kickass game. Sat through hours of makeup. Then I got to ride the bus, and go grocery shopping, still in full zombie look, prosthetic scars and all. (Well, I really needed soy milk.)
My birthday a few weeks ago was also lovely, thanks for the birthday wishes! Whiskey and sushi indeed.

I am currently four days into my ten day vacation, the longest amount of time I've had to myself in over a year. I'm currently lazing about until I get bored of lazing about and want to return to work.
Attn all Californians: I am now utilizing my Driver's License, dragging the little brats about, so beware! I sometimes think I should post a warning on facebook before I go out: stay off of the 101S between the hours of 6 and 8!!! My apologies to all I may encounter.
It's my birthday on Tuesday. I'm planning to combine my love of sushi and my alcoholism for a chill dinner and drunken action plan. The usual quietness, especially since I'll be Cate - less this year. And plans to see family didn't work out.
On a different track - as I don't have any new photoshoot offerings, I'll leave you with some awesome fanart from Errante:

Wherein pictures are taken and accomplishments are made:
First off, back in front of a camera again, with the kickass Leopold .

Other than that, my major accomplishment of the new year; I got my driver's license! California drivers, beware
I work too much.
But I got to lay in bed, listen to the sounds of thunder, drink a beer and eat Vegan homemade pizza, so there's that.
Episode in which Maddigan wanders through life while working A LOT. And rambles on about it.
Times, they are a'changing at work. Many who are nifty and devoted enough know that I work in psychiatric residential care for kids; a group home for some pretty special kids. (I'd really love to post some of the Christmas pictures, as they are adorable, but privacy violations and all...)
To quote from our website :
We are more than just a place. We offer a broad range of services to help children and families at home, in schools, and in the community. When abused, neglected, and troubled youth require more comprehensive care than their family or school can provide, our Intensive Services help children and teens to heal and reconnect with a safe, loving family whenever possible.
I've worked with the little ones for awhile, but in the desperate attempt to stay afloat in a political environment that seeks to take more and more away from social services and mental health, we've been forced to adapt in order to stay afloat (many other organizations of our type have closed down due to lack of funds). We have now integrated teens into our cottage, which is a huge shift for all, and for sure a source of many difficult (but hopefully rewarding overall) days to come.
On the brighter side, we've started making a clear effort to increase positive programming opportunities on campus; more sports, more crafts, more community outings, more classes in an effort to provide an enriching environment as opposed to just a containing one.
I've personally decided to indulge my Jewish grandmother side and create a knitting group. I've posted this in a few places, but here yet again:
Some of my little guys have started asking me about learning to knit/crochet (fantastic for kids, especially ones with these issues; developing fine motor skills, focus, etc. as we all know). So now I'm trying to start up a weekly knitting/crochet group for them, learning how, working on projects together which they're getting excited about.
But as a non-profit, our budget is super tight, so I'm trying to get as much of this donated or as cheap as possible. Does anyone know of any resources (people or companies on this site or elsewhere) that would help, maybe donate or reduce plastic kneedles or cheap yarn? It's tax deductible, etc.
(And hey, why not use my naked awesomeness as a vehicle to aid a kickass non-profit?
)
Aaaaaand, in other news:
I'm enjoying my new home life. I live with two other queer identified, sex positive, smoking/drinking, work-out enthusiasts. It's two other mes! Except for the artist part on their end, but I get to benefit from the awesome pieces around the house. Also making me happy right now is my landlord's penchant for cooking, which means that shortly I will be enjoying yummy cauliflower soup. Yey for the basic comforts.
