At least the rumors are about you and someone you respect,
rather than some you find loathsome.

If they're not vile, insulting rumors... you and your friend can laugh them off.
If they are vile... all you can do is go to where they occure, and offer a rebuttal.

Gossip happens... its pathetic, its lame, its annoying.
It is the desperate attempt of some loser trying to feel
some sense of self-worth. Problem is... it sells.

Fortunately the half-life of an internet topic is only a few days. So, shortly the rumor will be as relevant as Al Gore's sex life.

To dispose of them? Hire a hit against them, surely someone would do it. People are stupid, and need more things to do with their time instead of starting rumors. :/
