Long overdue for an update!

It's to be a very busy month for me! Thursday me and some friends are going to check out
a new local recording studio, converted from a barn. And they're going to try it out and I'm going to film (kinky! hehe) Friday I'll be singing at the Cracker Campout in Pioneertown, CA. The next week I am flying to Waycross GA on a top secret mission that should be a ton of fun and I plan to film and photograph all along the way. It's a very productive time for me and I will be embarking on a lot of different creative projects over the next several months. Will try to keep you updated with all the very best!
Just did a little trader joe's run today for the household (always increases the chances for a better day when you have good munchies around), and tonight I will be making tempeh-stuffed mushrooms.. while we help get a friend ready for an upcoming trip - ordering merch (anyone know of a good wholesale organic cotton t-shirt blanks distributor with low prices?) and I need to hem & take in a thriftstore dress for Friday night...and finish some sets....among other things! It's always non-stop! Wishing I could get on here more to communicate but you'll have to be content with my few-and-far between updates for now!
That reminds me, regretfully I have to miss out on the SGs-only pool party in LA on the 20th. I'll be there in spirit and I am sure it will be a stellar time! Take lots of pics for me of course!

In SG news, Luree came out to shoot with me last week and we had a nice night and an even nicer morning at the Pioneertown Motel. That girl's hotness floors me. And her unbeatable spirit as well. And I am super jazzed about Faithful's new set that we shot last time I was in Phoenix. ILoveHerFace. She has the greatest smile ever....and the sexiest pout too!! Jesus. I think God loves me afterall. Hahaha!
I am basically getting down on my hands and knees and kissing the ground about twice everyday now... Once at sunrise and again at sunset... Life is good. Eternally gratefully yours,
lorelei

Atlas - Just Passing Through

Also in member review!

Labrea - Point of View

Thanks to all for the love - you helped Ginjer & Callioppe's sets make it to the front page. We appreciate!!
I will be on location here all this month: The Joshua Tree Inn
One of my favorite places to be in all of the high desert.. It's a quiet, no-frills inn, where it's all about the soul of the place, nothing too fancy, but it does make you feel right at home. (Callioppe's set was shot here). And it has the coolest pool around - truly a blessing during this sweltering, 100+ degree summer we're having.

Are you an SG HOPEFUL who would like to shoot a set to submit to SuicideGirls?
Not sure if I have ever officially announced this, but did you know that you can book me for a sitting for the modest rate of $100? Ginjer, Labrea, and Callioppe's sets were all shot this way, and you get the full professional treatment. The fee is also 100% refundable if your set is chosen by SG as Set-of-the-Day.
sglorelei@gmail.com for more details.

Tonight @ Pappy & Harriet's (a World Famous Music Venue in Pioneertown, CA)...

The band I sing with...
THE SOLID RAY WOODS RAW SOUL REVIEW....starts at 8 pm...there's still time to get here! But don't wait, 'cause it's the desert and we close up around midnight.
Come hang out with us!

"Drummer/Vocalist Ray Woods
is Grade A Joshua Tree local honey. Woods has impressed audiences at
home and abroad with his impeccable rhythm, intuitive style, and golden
voice, lending his talents to The Jayhawks, Victoria Williams, and the
Thriftstore Allstars. A Solid Ray Woods show is a high-desert
experience not to be missed. Spanning everything from Van Morrison to
Marvin Gaye to Ray's own original compositions, a variety of Joshua
Tree's finest musicians lay down the groove, and harmony singers add
rich soulful dimension. You will be moved."

(oh yeah, and I want to brag that our keyboard player Bobby (bottom right)
was a long-time violin player for the great Leonard Cohen.)

Callioppe - My Summer Vacation
and as always, your feedback is greatly appreciated smile

.....

This is a supershort film one of my bands in rehearsal mode, as we learn "Bessie Smith" by The Band. (filmed 6.25.09... r.i.p. MJ)
SRWRSR on FB

Get Flash player

(Bessie Smith, born July 9, 1892 (thanks for pointing out that glaring typo, Charleston!!) was America's most famous female blues singer of the 20's and 30's; listen and read more....)

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Bessie Smith (1892 - 1937)

"was a rough, crude, violent woman. She was also the greatest of the classic Blues singers of the 1920s. Bessie started out as a street musician in Chattanooga. In 1912 Bessie joined a traveling show as a dancer and singer. The show featured Pa and Ma Rainey, and Smith developed a friendship with Ma. Ma Rainey was Bessie's mentor and she stayed with her show until 1915. Bessie then joined the T.O.B.A. vaudeville circuit and gradually built up her own following in the south and along the eastern seaboard. By the early 1920s she was one of the most popular Blues singers in vaudeville. In 1923 she made her recording debut on Columbia, accompanied by pianist Clarence Williams. They recorded "Gulf Coast Blues" and "Down Hearted Blues." The record sold more than 750,000 copies that same year, rivaling the success of Blues singer Mamie Smith (no relation). Throughout the 1920s Smith recorded with many of the great Jazz musicians of that era, including Fletcher Henderson, James P. Johnson, Coleman Hawkins, Don Redman and Louis Armstrong. Her rendition of "St. Louis Blues" with Armstrong is considered by most critics to be one of finest recordings of the 1920s.

Bessie Smith was one of the biggest African-American stars of the 1920s and was popular with both Whites and African-Americans, but by 1931 the Classic Blues style of Bessie Smith was out of style and the Depression, radio, and sound movies had all damaged the record companies' ability to sell records so Columbia dropped Smith from its roster. In 1933 she recorded for the last time under the direction of John Hammond for Okeh. The session was released under the name of Bessie Smith accompanied by Buck and his Band. Despite having no record company Smith was still very popular in the South and continued to draw large crowds, although the money was not nearly as good as it had been in the 1920s. Bessie had started to style herself as a Swing musician and was on the verge of a comeback when her life was tragically cut short by an automobile accident in 1937. While driving with her lover Richard Morgan (Lionel Hampton's uncle) in Mississippi their car rear-ended a slow moving truck and rolled over crushing Smith's left arm and ribs. Smith bled to death by the time she reached the hospital. John Hammond caused quite a stir by writing an article in Downbeat magazine suggesting that Smith had bled to death because she had been taken to a White hospital and had been turned away. This proved not to be true, but the rumor persists to this day.
