So this might freak out some people...I know I was horrified. A few weeks ago I went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving with my mother at the new Whole Foods store by her house. We were really hungry and decided to get a bite from the deli for lunch. One of the hot skillet entres was brussel sprouts. As I breifly looked at it sizzling in front of me I noticed some red things in the skillet which I thought was red onion. So I read the label and it said just veggies etc. So I asked the guy behind the deli if there was meat in it. He said no and I asked for a small sample. I went and grabbed my mom and showed her what I was thinking of having for lunch. She said it looked like there was bacon in the entree. Immeaditly I asked the deli guy to double check if there was meat in it. He came back and admitted yes, there was bacon in it!
I was overwhelmed with emotions, mainly shock. Shock that a store wich is supposed to cater to people with special needs diets was serving pork in what was labled vegitarian. I thought I would feel better if I had a chance to speak to the store manager and express to him what I was feeling. He was very friendly and sympathetic. He regreted that he could not take back what I ate, but he gave me a $50 gift card.
Until that day I had not had pork since 1998!
