we drove to a sculpture garden today. i wore lots of lip stuff and my face was shiny and freckly. in the sculpture garden, we (we: me and my friend barrie, who is a girl, who traveled alone in india, who is so smart and so quiet until you know her) touched all the sculptures we weren't supposed to touch. we saw a stone wall built by andy goldsworthy, which was prolly the neatest thing. but it was all neat. then we ate cheese and i drank a whole doctor pepper and got really talkative. when we leave the nature area we live in, we get a little crazy with the sugar, as if we'd been let out of the mental ward for a day.

my body is changing because i have been working very hard, physical labor. i feel good. i feel shiny and tan and hardcore.

i have taken to talking to the skunks i see on the paths at night. and the foxes. a friend, he told me he played with foxes, that they were long, that they swarmed around him like spirits. running into wild animals at night is disarming. even things like deer. i see them and i feel a tense connection, then i feel embarassed and awkward to be human, and to be so unable to communicate with them.

in the grass today, in the sun, barrie put wires in my dreadlocks and told me of lost love. sometimes i remember i'm in upstate new york and i get confused. i am from california. i am from earth.
