When I doubt my feelings, I often read some of his work, it helps me remember that although love is not perfect it is worth nourishing.

i think that when most people say 'i love x' what they actually mean is 'i want to be loved by x' - m.scott peck got this right, for all that he might have had personal faults - that love is not a feeling - that it can exist in the absence of the feeling of being in love - that is active caring for the other, in spite of the ego, which is diminished rather than boosted by the experience of being truly loving towards the other
I always thought the word love was a bit abstract. I've seen people use it for granted, out of politeness rather than actually meaning it. It's really sad.
As in love is used rather easily these days, I admit I forgot how rare I should use that word. I've become one of those people that used it when they didn't mean to.
For that I'm pissed off, I have since gone back on the few times I was throwing that word around
