James and Amina: thread derailing since 2001

Ok so i just watched the most disturbing half hour of TV I've seen in a long time. It was a show on MTV called "I want a famous face", it was about this girl who wanted to look just like Pamela Anderson. She got a boob job, lip implants and a chin tuck all at the age of 19. She did all this with hopes of becoming a playmate....what the hell are we doing to ourselves? Thiis girl (who I have seen many times in other girls) is doing this for the attention from men she wants and the attention of some stupid standard of a girl that doesnt exist. It made me really upset. And i thought, am i being a hypocrit by being on this site and making another standard? But then i realized that that was a reason I like SG because there are bigger girls and there are girls that arent the average idea of beautful. SO yay for SG for that.
but the thing that really got me about this girl on TV was the shots of her going around looking for attention, showing strangers her new boob job, and pictures of her in playboy saying she was upset with the way they came out, like, "aw i think i look fat and ugly...what do you think honey?? " what the hell is that? this girl has been conditioned all her life to look for approval from men and that kills me! GIRLS- lokk for approval only from yourself, love yourself and others will respond to that. Be who you are and dont look to some template for looks or behavior, BE YOURSELF. There is nothing more sexy than a confident original. And the most important thing is to stick together and support each other and remind ourselves that we are beatiful.

ok, I got that off my chest. Please love yourself.

yeah, that show sucks ass!! i think it can give the wrong impression that this is an ok and healthy thing to do. generally i am pretty lenient with mtv, but this is bullshit. if it was a one time episode that wanted to discuss a certain phenomenon, fine. but this is a series! damn it pisses me off!!! mad

I saw that show too. I think the whole concept of the show is deranged. There's other episodes where two twin brothers spend like $12,000 each on extensive plastic surgery because they want to look like Brad Pitt, a transvestite who gets surgery because she wants to be another J.Lo, etc. It's crazy.

I'm glad SG accepted me, 'cuz I'm not 5'11" and waif thin, and they liked my set anyways.

Preach on.

Man, that show sounds disturbing. that one on Fox called the Swan actually made me feel sick when I saw a cmmoercial for it. It seems we spend all this time trying to find some national standard of beauty that it blinds us to the things about ourselves that make us original and therefore beautiful.

That makeover shit really scares me. Honestly, it's like watching conformity in action. Next thing you know they'll all be marching in formation and chanting slogans. Individuality is the antithesis of fascism. That's why I love SG too.

woah, see what you mean about the sleeve - that's some serious work! the biggest reactions i've had so far have been to my pretty 'out there' hair do's really...which is quite the bodymod in itself.

i'm planning on getting some large tattoo work fairly soon myself...black zebra stripes up both my arms, from just above my elbows to half way up my neck. i can just imagine some of the looks i'll get from old ladies...especially the asian ones too! i get totally frowned upon by them!!

feel free to write anymore, my friend will probably pick and choose any quotes she needs (and everyone will be credited by their SG name)

i watch that show just to get disgusted at the human race. that girl sha made me ill-- noone's ultimate goal should be to be in playboy. nudity is rad, but be passionate about other things.
the one they had on last week was pretty gross too. it was a guy who wanted to look more like jennifer lopez as the first step in his transgendering process. which, ya know, more power to her, rock the fuck on, i say. but she got bone chiseled out of forehead!!! just to look like fucking jlo!!!

i' m getting all worked up. but thank you for being as disturbed by this as i am.

Sound like the money would have been much better spent on therapy. Oh and just a warning; stay away from the show on FOX called "The Swan." Haven't seen it...won't see it but from what I here it's "I Want a Famous Face" without the integrity. eeek

what's especially fucked up about that is she chose to look like pamela anderson. i mean, if she had chosen, say, audrey hepburn, i might be able to begin to understand.

you like "the golden girls." you're fucking adorable. love

I swear, psychological disorders like this didn't exist before the internet and television. What a sham.

Interestingly enough, people have given me crap about SG for the same criticisms that you're levelling here (saying that people only go to the site for attention, blah blah blah). I think that the greater part of the community here tends to frown upon the extreme attention whores, but to some extent it is also encouraged, which is really part of the liberating aspect of the site. As long as people are in it for that aspect and not-so-much the former, I'll keep my membership. smile

But yeah, pamela anderson... nasty. puke

You know the funny thing was I've seen some truly terrible things happen in life, and been less creeped than I was for that commercial for the Swan. It literally made me shudder with revulsion.

Holy shit, I didn't know that pamela anderson was vegan. I remember reading about her being in on peta's fur campaigns in the past, but that kind of puts her in a different light...

Still, I hate her acting and wouldn't want to look like her. But at least I could eat dinner with her. =)
