I became annoyed with project runways last show. They kept referring to women that weren't part of the fashion industry as "real" women. So if one is tall and thin they are not "real" I think this concept shouldn't make other then model shaped women feel better. It's a way of rejecting a group of women for the way that they look and that is never good. saying that some women are real while others aren't inherently defines them as not the same thing. How does saying that large, short, male ect... women are not the same thing as tall thin female ect... women help either group feel better about who they are? Real women come in ALL shapes sizes and sexes...we are ALL REAL!
Dividing people into a "them and us" binary based on things that are part of natural human diversity is a nasty road. people should define their own groups, by choosing how they identify. If someone born male choses to identify as a woman then she becomes part of that group willingly and is "real". If someone is genetically thin and short, they are not any less real than a woman that is genetically tall and thick.
I agree that when artists photoshop the shit out of a photo to make a woman's head thicker than her hips that is NOT real, but if a woman happened to have the genetics that coded for that appearance then she is real, and should never be treated of called otherwise.

I know what I'm doing after I graduate!

what an amazing opportunity! This research facility is doing some amazing work with the development of vaccines for parasitic infections. It's so sad to me that we know of people like "snookie" but not the people that are working to prevent horrible afflictions. /sigh
I would deff give their research program site a glance. especially if you live in a warm climate state or are less then affluent. (like myself) because these people are working to save YOU! <3

Made it to VA. pretty smooth flights, pilots are damn good at their jobs. It was pretty amazing seeing the rockies from above.
Richmond seems pretty cool so far. Not a whole lot of places to eat in the middle of the night but we found a Jimmy Jons. Everyone in there was amped, pretty sure they give their workers speed, or maybe meth. They had oldies playing and where all singing along. Looked like a pretty cool group to hang around.
going to the Poe Museum tonight for the Unhappy hour. Live music, museum, Poe, and drinks if it isn't the perfect combination I don't know what is
My friend has two bangle cats, it's like living with two adorable daemons. Have to keep hands and feet covered at all times or else they get nibbled. they are really entertaining to watch and play with though.
If anyone has recommendations of cool off the beaten path sort of things to do in Richmond or DC. let me know, I'm always up for the weird stuff.

Article about N. Fowleri
Just wrote a pretty in depth paper about this parasite. Read a probably 75% of the literature that is out there on it. Looks like I'm going to be increasingly aggravated with the mass media the more I learn.
it says that it's spreading because of global warming. it is more likely that it's spreading because of the sterilization of much of the waterways. N.Fowleri loves nothing more than a lack of competition. The article makes it sound like one is safer if swimming in pools, the opposite is true. ugh, wish they would read the literature before writing articles

Looks like it really is turning out to be a busy summer. On Wednesday I'm flying to VA to meet up with one of my best friends / sexy man crush. I haven't seen him in something like 11 years!
Really looking forward to seeing everything that Richmond has to offer, especially the Poe museum.

Having a yard sale right now...wow it takes a lot out of me. I hate getting glared at by old ladies that don't like my prices. Met an interesting sci fi fan from Bulgaria though, which was pretty sweet.

Just got done with a quick round of SG or Hunger Games character
Totally rocked it like any SG would. Only got one wrong "glimmer" threw me off.
Play it and let me know how you do
too bad they didn't choose Higgs as one of their crazy names, guess it's too obvious with the boson being in the news lately.
I'm working on replying still so don't think that I don't love you and your messages because I DO I really do.
Oh and on a side note about names I really think I should have chosen Apoptosis it's wittier. But then it doesn't have the same ring to it as Higgs

So I am still busy as always and although I keep thinking that I will have some time "soon" that never seems to happen. So here are some funny pic I saw on the internet.

<3 you people

View of Mt. Rainier at the pass. Just a note- if a prof tells you to take plant samples here, don't do it. It makes the rangers VERY angry and they WILL run you down.

Lateral moraine and the white river, both created by the Edmonds Glacier

Snout of the Edmonds Glacier. It is cover by a landslide that happened years ago. this location wasn't all that safe. It was raining rocks!

Me with the glacier behind me. I was pretty tuckered out from the scramble over the bolder field on the way there.

Mass wasting off the side peaks of Mt. Rainier

Mt. Rainier in all it's scary and amazing glory. I still can't believe I hiked half way up it!
WOW had an amazing time hiking and camping for the past week. I was declared the best camp cook and shot some amazing photos. I'll be sharing them soon. right now I'm totally beat, 30 miles in 5 days will do that to a girl.
