I, at least, am a dinosaur on these boards, a relic from an earlier time when the only moderator was the sweet lick of flame.

I've never put anyone on ignore. I forget that the flag feature exists. I get upset when threads are locked, when nasty tags are deleted. I don't rely on the SG-privilege to stay safe.

I like the mess and the flaming. I like being insulted and spitting venom back. I don't just snark in private groups and friends threads. I want to get in fights, especially when, say, certain individuals whom I have never spoken to insult me and then pussyfoot around instead of apologizing like, you know, a fucking grown-up, and even more so when they fuck with people whom I love.

It releases a lot of stress, and you know, it's the goddamned internet. You're not supposed to take it seriously.

I am a goddess / angel. Forget what other's say!!

So I'm a dinosaur, and whenever I'm reminded of this, it just reminds me how much things have changed in five years.

And how fucking lame it is.

Speaking of fucking lame, I'm writing melodramatic blog entries. How much do I suck?

I've never understood the huge sensitivity. We each have opinions and beliefs. If those opinions and beliefs are not able to withstand external examination/attack/discourse then they need to be reexamined.

You're right about the tone of things . . . definitely less exciting/interesting. There are so many people now!

I pretty much forgot about the flag . . . everyone has a right to their opinion, as long as they're not abusive.

I have no context for your blog entry... but I just wanted to say that my favorite dinosaur is by far the Triceratops. Who couldn't love the little veggie going against the big bad T. Rex?

On trolls (from The Wikipedia Review Forum)::

Wikipedia - the flat, asynchronous and open model allows anyone to post anything; users work to undo negative changes using the built-in reversion tools, but this requires hundreds of volunteers to monitor large popular sites. Trolls tend to be more subtle than in discussion groups, often posting material that could be legitimate, but will cause controversy by challenging the current [[power structure]]. Poster #1 quoting this: Hmm. So, it is impossible to discern whether anyone who expresses a controversial opinion is a troll. That's interesting. Thus, if Wikipedians label anyone who disagrees with them (in other words "expresses a controversial opinion") a troll, they can find justification in their own encyclopedia. After all, it's impossible to discern, so they can't possibly be blamed for labelling all of their critics as trolls.

I personally can spot a troll a mile away and can easily discern whether a user is espousing a controversial opinion or trolling. Why can't Wikipedians make this distinction?
