First, regarding my last post, I had an exchange with one of the individuals also involved in raising money for Pretty Bird Woman House who let me know that my blog entry led to quite a few donations, including some very significant ones. Thank you so much, all of you. Both women's rights and indigenous rights are incredibly important to me; I have donated much of my free time over the course of the past ten years to such causes. Helping people like the women behind PBWH means more to me than any compliment you leave on my sets or any gift you could send me. Moreover, it says great things about the audience here; you're not the objectifying perverts that some might make you out to be; you are human beings, and good ones. So thank you, and know that the good you've done will be providing a safe place for those who need one desperately.

Anyway, 2007 was a truly bizarre year for me; I entered it with certain expectations and plans, and I leave it with most of that turned upside down. But I am in a better place right now than I've been in a long time.
New Year's resolutions are pretty cheeseball, but as a "highly narrative and symbolic" person (my professors tell me that such is my weak spot in academic writing), I appreciate the hermetic meaning in trying to change your life right around the time that the days start to get longer and the world is reborn.
So, in 2008, I will:
*find a new yoga studio in NC and start practicing again, because I am out of shape both physically and spiritually
*work on my book more and dick around on the internet less
*continue therapy and try not to stress out so much about things I can't change
*be good to people, especially myself (this is intertwined with the above)
*and, you know, continue to kick ass in my second iteration of getting an undergraduate degree
I hope all of you have a safe and fun New Year. I'm going to see the Black Lips play a glorious hometown show on New Year's Eve with my best friend. It's hard to imagine a better way to kick off 2008.

Make sure you pay special attention to the resolution about being good to yourself.
Sounds like you're going to have a great time tonight, and I hope it's better that you've imagined. We don't have anything lined up, but that's okay cause we can just hang together tonight and snuggle, cuddle, and other cute things.
