Natsuo Kirino is a fun read.

I picked up The 36th Chamber of Shaolin a while back and that was a great Chinese seventies kung fu flick.

I've been reading "The Folly of Fools" by Robert Trivers, about self-deception in everyday life, why it's important that we deceive ourselves (!) and how it can backfire on us. Also reading "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."
Anything by Ryu Murakami is amazing, he wrote the novel "Audtion" that the Japanese horror movie was based on. Super violent, colorful, surreal novels.

Easier With Practice, is by far one of my favourite movies, I think you'd love it. Or Fox and the Hound... it's my go to movie when I'm feeling down or when I'm hung over.

I would recomend the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larson, very good books
-The Book Thief - Marcus Zusak, set in Germany during WW2 the story is about a young girl who lives in Berlin, the story is narrated by "Death" who tells us about his 3 encounters with the girl, while collecting soles. Never read anything quite like it, a good and touching story

if you're into fantasy:
-Night Angel Trilogy - Brent Weeks, a story about a young boy who train to become an assasin. Good writing, with so many plot twists and sudden suprising changes that you never know the outcome of what you do. As the author say: "If you kill a main charracter or two, the next time you put them in danger, the reader worry"
-Mistborne Trilogy - Brendan Sanderson, about a young girl who learns to use magic and gang up with a group of crooks to bring down the government. The story is well written, and the world is well thought through... The story might be familiar to "fantasy" fans, but the world and the rules that aply is innoative and bring a fresh breath into the genre.
-Black Magician Trilogy - Trudy Canavan
-Age of the five Trilogy - Trudy Canavan
