On Saturday I got rabies.
Well I suppose technically, technically, I didn't so much get rabies in the sense of frothing at the mouth and harbouring a strange urge to bite people. I suppose technically, technically I was vaccinated against rabies, but gosh that sounds rather less dramatic as an opening gambit doesn't it?
And today I spent my morning getting tetanus, diptheria, typhoid, hepatitis and polio. And then promptly fainted on the nurse. I had to go and lie down on a little gurney thing in another room, how embarrassing. I lay there staring at the ceiling until the world had stopped looking and sounding like TV static, and then continued to lie there for about an hour more. I had been told under strict instructions NOT TO MOVE, and so I lay there wondering vaguely when I was going to be allowed up, feeling glad I was not at work and trying to decide if it would be acceptable for me to take a little nap. Turned out the nurse had totally forgotten about me.

Fun times. It seems so wrong to pay someone an extortionate sum of money to be injected with hideous diseases. Anyway, the reason behind all the limbering up of the immune system is not down to my paranoid hypochondria or masochistic tendencies, but as you may have guessed I'm going away for a bit.

I'm heading to New York on September 10th, for ATP Festival and oh my fucking god how amazing is that line up?!
Then a week in New York followed by some as yet rather unplanned (panic, panic, panic) travelling down through America and to Peru, then up to Ecuador and a stint volunteering at an animal rescue centre there. then somehow up to Mexico, and back home.
Details fuzzy. Panic setting in.

Random holidays are fun, especially to exotic places. I can totally sympathize with the fuzzy details. I'm moving to the states for a couple months tomorrow and got my tickets and job contract precise 5 hours ago. Flights in 10 hours. Talk about leaving it late...I was panicing just a bit :p

Hope the travelling goes well!

Have you done the American pre-registration screening thingamagig? My manager is going to New York in two weeks and nobody told her when she booked it that you have to do that, which I found impressively unbelievable. I think it's called ESTA, just in case you haven't!

The trip sounds awesome, I am jealous. Except of all your diseases, you can keep them.

Don't panic too much. Sometimes the best adventures can be had on spontaneous trips. (that last line is usually said by the optimistic yet niave one in the party who becomes the first victim of the pychotic killer in the horror movies where they get lost...just kidding biggrin)
Hey, if you happen to pass through Arkansas, and just happen to pass through a little town called Batesville, stop on by the Kroger store while you're there and say "Hi!" (like that's really going to happen. wink)
Have a good trip.

Re: ATP lineup- Me and my girlfriend so nearly got tickets for this only to have to change our plans because of a wedding invite. For me Flaming Lips, Iron & Wine, Deerhoof, Sufjan Stevens, David Cross, Suicide and Melvins sounded like the perfect festival. Then Super Furry Animals were anounced. I wept. I'll never go to another wedding again!
Anyway, you have a blast!

P.S
Peru is pretty awesome, but so jealous about ATP.
