The anti-fashion show the other night was really fun. A couple of stylists just threw together a bunch of bizarre outfits from Bas Kosters's reject clothes and fabrics, and made us wear them on the catwalk. Some guy desperately tried to impress me by telling me how he saw Black Flag when he was fourteen. Who cares, that just means you're old, haha.
So tonight I'm going to Club Filth with Bas, and I'm looking fabulously '80s in powder pink pumps and a Tiga T-shirt.

Someone's doing another (anti-)fashion show for Bas Kosters tonight, darlings.
Come party with us at Flexbar, Amsterdam if you're around!

The other night I did a runway show for one of The Netherlands' most promising and controversial fashion designers, Bas Kosters. I wore a multi-colored cape adorned with his signature doll characters made out of many different recycled fabrics, grey 'shit-stained' jogging pants and black leather heels. The hairstylist added fake pink to my hair, braided it, and made a big poof in the front. My make-up was pale face, red cheeks, taped off eyebrows, bright red glittering lips, and eyelids in every color of the rainbow. It was pretty theatrical and ridiculous but awesome. The crowd was freaking out when I walked the catwalk because apparently the cape was the main piece of the collection, haha. The designer sure loved it. ("Darling! You were perfect!") Pictures soon, I promise. Anyway, check this guy out, he's gonna be big. He also makes music.

I've got some time off 'till school starts again in February so I get to dick around not worrying about a whole lot until then. It's pretty nice, actually.
There was a huge storm around here the other day, so there was no public transport whatsoever available, as well as the airport and central station were evacuated. I think some people died, even. Not as dramatic for me, bit I was in Arnhem for a meeting about the programming at Goudvishal and couldn't get back to Amsterdam, but luckily my new family Reflections Records let me crash at theirs. We watched a documentary about masturbation addiction (hey, that's not funny!) and a horrible movie called Poseidon (yes, the remake). The next morning I helped with some promotions for the new Justice record which will be out in March. (If you're around, come to the release show with True Colors, Cold World, and War Hungry in Kontich, Belgium on March 10!) Just keeping you up to date.
Last night I worked at a show with Boston/Amsterdam based reggae punk band Jaya The Cat which was fun because I've known them since I was sixteen, and two other local bands Cooper (pop punk rock) and San Andreas (emocore). It was alright but a quite uneventful night. (Sorry kids, I can't be rock and roll every fucking night.)
P.S. Many thanks to Dinos, who dropped off some great presents for me when he was in Amsterdam last week! You're awesome.

The Eurosonic/Noorderslag festival was awesome. I went to several music industry seminars during the day (some interesting ones about booking agencies and touring, but some bullshit subjects as well), and checked out some great upcoming bands at night. This led to the discovery of these two Nordic gems: The Cheaters (Norwegian garage rock'n'roll) and Sounds Like Violence (raw fucking indie rock from Sweden) which, again, confirms how much Scandinavians rock. Just saying. However, the show of the night was definitely what I'd been waiting for: Enter Shikari. Their energy is incredible. Hardcore & trance samples?! It's the best thing since sliced bread, I tell you. We ended up at hanging out at some tacky bar in Groningen (it was the only place still open at 4am) but had a pretty good time rapping along to 2Pac and watching underage girls pole dance, haha.
The next day I visited more seminars, went bowling with the lovely people at Epitaph Europe, and travelled to Nijmegen to meet up with Enter Shikari again. I missed most of Malkovich's set, but it was good seeing them. Lots of people showed up (250?), I was impressed that everyone seemed to know the lyrics from just the tracks on MySpace! I wonder how many kids I'm going to see wearing ES hoodies at shows in the next couple of weeks. Anyway, I think everyone was still quite tired from the night before so we just went over to the hotel to crash. Apparently the guys set off the smoke alarm(!) by accident and firemen showed up(!!), but I slept like a rock and missed out on all the action.
On Saturday we drove to Utrecht (oh, the excitement over a windmill!), where they played their last and best show in The Netherlands. I think my favorite part (after Rob's dance moves and Rou's karate kicks) is a couple of hundred kids all wearing ES light rings perfectly clapping three times during "Sorry, You're Not a Winner". It's awesome. Go see them play to know what I'm talking about. We partied at the venue and decided to carry on at the hotel, but I passed out as soon as we got there (note to self: Jägermeister is a really bad idea) so I can't remember too much from what happened then. The guys left early in the morning to go back to the U.K. but I slept in until the reception called at noon to kick me out. Needless to say I woke up with a massive hangover, but who cares when you've made new friends!
P.S. Go check out their tour diary!

Haha, I'm staying at Goudvishal. Today my boss asked me if I wanted to keep working there twice a week until next month so I can set up some formats to make communications with artists and managements easier and less time-consuming, since there is no one to replace me when I leave (I'm irreplaceable, bitches)! Aside from that, I will keep co-ordinating artist hospitality and doing some programming. Succes!
Tomorrow's my last day of my 5-month internship at Goudvishal. I'm going to keep working on show nights and possibly do some programming, but it's the end of my office days there. I've learned a shitload and love it there, but it's time for something new.
On Thursday we're going to Noorderslag, the biggest annual music industry festival in The Netherlands. I'll be at the seminars about booking tours and the future of music during the day, and seeing upcoming international bands at night. (I think I have to miss Tying Tiffany, but I will see her on Sunday!) I'm really looking forward to seeing Enter Shikari. I have a feeling it's gonna be a crazy party with those English boys. I'll keep you updated, of course.
After the weekend I have three(!) weeks off before I start my work placement at Reflections Records and taking Business Concepts Music Industry classes. I have no idea what that's about, but it sounds interesting. After that I'm taking Artist Management which is perfect before I go on tour next summer. I love my life.
P.S. Seriously, if you haven't listened to Tiga's live DJ sets yet, do it now.
