I got a new VW!!! Well, Not new new, but it's new to me and I love it. '99 Passat Wagon bitches!
While test driving it I discovered that the passenger window is very off track; so much so that if you attempt to roll it down and then back up it will almost fall out. Also, it barely has brakes, and I think because of this it has a little bit of a shimmy. (I'm guessing it needs new rotors and could definitely use new tires as well, but I'm no car doctor.) The hood does not hold itself open, and the latch on it has fallen off - but I do have the latch. There are no rear head rests. The driver's seat also does not move forward or backward, but I also have the part for this. The grill under the bumper is fucked due to I'm guessing, someone bottoming out.
When I got it home I discovered that it has no air conditioning, no stereo, one of the tail lights is out, and there is a dent in the rear hatch.
I'm wonder what excitement tomorrow will bring!
It's good features are that it has a working moon roof, there is no rust, the interior isn't too crappy (though the previous owner totally had a fucking dog), the paint is good except for a couple of spots I can fix with touch-up paint, I think it has keyless entry but I'm wondering if the thing needs a new battery, and with new floor mats and a good detailing (by me) it looks like a pretty slick little ride. Oh! And it has ashtrays! And even a cigarette lighter! ...though I'm not sure if it works, but it had better because I'm excited about having one.
I know, you're probably thinking there are a lot of shitty things for such a few good things; but I paid $2,400 for it and my dad has agreed to help me do most of the work so I'm alright with it. I do love me some VW - that shit is true.

I'd say congrats on the car but it sounds like you have a lot of work to do on the sexy beast.... Hopefully it doesn't set you back too much....

I'm concerned however about the brake shimmy and the fact that you might think it was bottomed out. those fixes could be expensive.

weird we have the same car... same color and everything... is it a manual? 1.8t?
ok, I used to be a mechanic and I've done everything that can be done to that car...

the windows are a kind of crappy design, metal vs plastic: metal wins, but you can take them apart and put them back together so they work, most of the time, using the parts that have shaken them self loose...

definitely do the timing belt..or make sure its been done, other wise you'll need a new timing belt AND a cylinder head rebuild... pistons vs valves: pistons win...

and the shimmey, does it go wo, wo, wo, with speed? if so its probably a wheel bearing, otherwise U prob just need some new balanced tires...

anyway... good luck and congrats...

Ooh! Nice. Is it a diesel? Hmm I'm not sure they put the diesel in the Passat. Anywho, I used to have a Jetta, and Now I have an Eos, so I know a thing or two about VWs! Like how to take apart the key, to put in a new battery. I'm sure the stereo etc, is a fuse or two.

Yay car!

The really good thing about your generation of Passat is: it's not the former one.

That Mark had serious undercarriage issues during servicing. A huge under engine cover plate that had to be removed before any work could be done from underneath the vehicle. A process that might take an extra hour or more.

Admittedly you got the vehicle for a good price ( Here in Canada 2,400 bucks for a 99 Passat is SUPER Low And the price would very questionable - I would think it's been in a horrible accident, if it was posted in the buy and sell here. )

And if you do have to put money into the vehicle. Just get it inspected, right away. And get the Mechanic to give you a list - in order of importance of what needs to be fixed.

The plus to fixing up a car you like is: Everytime your start the engine. You know what works and what doesn't.

That's a slick car and a really pretty blue. I test drove a Passat once and it was nice. Plus, wagons are incredibly useful without being big, obnoxious SUVs. Tires and brakes pretty much always need to be replaced on used cars. They're usually the last things people tend to get fixed since the car still runs even if they're in crappy shape, and then they end up being the motivation to sell the car. They wanted to get a new car anyway, so why spend the money getting that stuff fixed? No big deal. I'd bet the dog they had was pretty big and probably broke the window and ate the headrests. Also the damage to the front could have simply been caused by getting hung up on a high curb and being ripped off as they backed out. All in all it sounds like it could be a pretty good car. I'm definitely jealous of the ashtrays and lighter. On my car, the spot that should normally have an ashtray just has an ashtray sized, rubber lined storage pocket that specifically notes, "This is not an ashtray." Anyway, congratulations!

Congratulations on the car! A few years back I had a VW GTI and loved that damn guten fahrt. German autos are the shit, in the sense that the shit is good.

The dead animals did not haunt me in my sleep, but I'm sure that they peeped at me far too many times while I was showering. That part was rather uncomfortable... damn 'coon gave me the stink eye. Further perpetuated lies, continue.

I'm curious to know if this will hold true for you...

The keloid itself isn't too large it only comes from the top of the piercing. Its round and looks like a pimple, but it seemed to go away for like a week and then i looked on Sunday and it was back. Its flesh color for a day then after i clean it, it turns reddish and usually starts to puss. Its really small so its not very obvious but its hurts a little and its ugly.
Thanks for your help with everything!

If it is, I'm putting a towel over it, for sure. A soccer mom is a prestigious title. I've played soccer the majority of my life and have the highest respect for soccer moms, especially those driving fine german autos as opposed to behemoth american suvs. I considered buying an Audi A3 before I fell for the Subie.

New topics... no lies. Your higher education major? Art-related, I assume. Most important, are you a voter? If so, who is in line to earn your vote for next prez?

Hope you're having a lovely teutonic day. Cheers.

It's an alligator lizard that invaded the apartment when I was all by my lonesome! I freaked out more than I'd like to admit. Lizards outside are cute, lizards inside are scary.
