Does anyone have any tips for selling on ebay? I have just started putting stuff up this week, mainly clothes and a few bits have gone already which is great... because man, i need the dollar like you wouldnt believe$$$$any tips and wrinkles would be greatly appreciatedsmile

So sorry for the crazy birthday post, do you ever get those days when you litterally cant stop crying, tears were rolling down my face the whole day. I think its times like birthdays or just important days that i feel so far away from my family and friends, and i mean its my choice to be all the way over here in australia but wow it gets SO hard. Its not like i was running away from my family they are the most important amazing peple in my life and i am so lucky to have them

So im excited because im getting fit, started back at the gym and starting bikram hot yoga next monday, and trying to eat better, and well abit less. iIwant to shape up for summer and hopefully shoot a new set for you guys, cos lets face it its been a while and would like to give it one more shot before i hang up my s.g sneakers.

I make a good chunk of my income through selling books and CDs on eBay. Clothing (especially if it's vintage) is in a whole other world, but I'd still say you want to have a good, descriptive item title (don't use "L@@K" or stupid things like that), take good, well lit pictures, and describe the item fully (including any flaws-- that way your customers can't claim you tricked them). It's usually smart to offer insurance (but don't include it for free, because it's usually a waste of money), so that if the item gets lost or destroyed in the mail you can blame the customer for not buying the insurance. If you're selling rare, lower interest goods, Buy It Now might be the best option, but for more popular stuff you'll want to have an auction with a low starting bid (99 cents works well sometimes) and no reserve. (Items with a reserve are much, much less likely to sell.) Finally, if you're doing auctions, you want to start them between 8 and 10 PM. That way you'll get more bids near the auction close from people who are both home from their jobs and still awake. I think those are the main things to keep in mind, but of course there's always more. Hope some of it helps. Good luck!

here's a cut-and-paste of something I told someone else about ebay, it may or may not apply to you:

-be sure of your shipping charges. I hate accidentally undercharging for shipping!

- I'd keep the stuff cheap, but not SO cheap it's barely worth the bother it takes to sell it.

- Small items are SO much easier to deal with and ship than big items. Yes, this is obvious, but it's still a factor.

"The thing I worry about with ebay is that there are so many people selling the same items as you, don't you have to pay extra money to get your item to appear high in search results, etc? "

I NEVER pay extra for anything (except sometimes more pics), so don't worry about that. I honestly don't think that makes a difference, anyway. There's all SORTS of extra options that simply aren't needed, unless you're selling a REAL big ticket item and want as much promotion as possible.

- CDs: check first to see if there's a demand for that particular CD. some common stuff you're better off selling cheap to the cd store. (I do this, too). I just copied some pearl jam, STP, and Red Hot Chili peppers. THOSE will go to the store. they're still somewhat popular groups, but their random albums form the 90's are SO common. I tend to specialize in selling heavy metal, it's also most of what I usually buy, so I tend to KNOW more about it, and guess how much in demand it'll be. Also, the market on ebay is better for some random death metal band that it would be at the CD store, which has little need for the really-lesser known stuff.

- I generally have better luck with LOTS than individual items. a lot of 2 Bjork CDs, for example. I put a few lots of related comics up. A set of all 5 issues of a mini series, plus one issue of a semi related series. I try to group comics together as well as possible.

- Flat rate envelopes for the comic lots, unless it's a HUGE lot. I can fit about 14 regular size comics in a flat rate envelope, w/cardboard protection inside ($4.90). Most of my lots are form 5 to 10 issues.
