Unfortunately this is what happens when things become mainstream and the scene becomes commercialized. Corporations don't want artists to be political dissidents, because it reflects on their company negatively. Thus, artists are frequently silenced and discouraged from being controversial in the slightest.

Yeah, there hasn't been anything that I would even classify as punk for years. Punk wasn't a music genre or a fashion trend. It was a bunch of people going against the grain of society. Hence there hasn't been any punk for some time now, just pop rock.
