Callioppe dreams of flight

I’m private

AUGUST 17, 2011 @ 10:15 AM

Summer is coming to a close here in California, and I have been spending these last few weeks playing in the sun.

Last week I was invited to Sean's house to lounge by the pool and hang out with some familiar faces such as Venom (who was kind enough to allow me to jump into her car), Milloux, Exning, and the new faces of, Valhala , Elliot, and Flux. Sean lives in a little sanctuary in the middle of a busy city, with his sweet little pup named Penny. His house is enclosed by hunter green foliage and magenta bougainvillea and squirrels prance around, chasing each other on telephone wires. It is all very beautiful.

We sipped on wine, cracked jokes, and hung out by the pool.

Later we talked about fetishes, strip clubs, dungeons, cereal killers, the television industry, and other things, over some vegan food that Sean was nice enough to have delivered

I have started a new obsession in the form of Futurist Photography with the help of Wanda Wulz and Anton Giulio Arturo Bragaglia

Futurism came into being with the appearance of a manifesto published by the poet Filippo Marinetti on the front page of the February 20, 1909, issue of Le Figaro. It was the very first manifesto of this kind.

Marinetti summed up the major principles of the Futurists. He and others espoused a love of speed, technology and violence. Futurism was presented as a modernist movement celebrating the technological, future era. The car, the plane, the industrial town were representing the motion in modern life and the technological triumph of man over nature. Some of these ideas, specially the use of modern materials and technique, were taken up later by Marcel Duchamp (French, 1887-1968), the cubist, the constructivist and the dadaist.

Yesterday I got home from a trip to Vegas with my favorite boy to celebrate a quarter of a century of his existence.

We drove out through the desert listening to all sorts of music to get us excited, and talking about everything and anything that crossed our minds.

When we arrived we checked in to our hotel, took a shower together and then crawled into bed to heat things up while we waited for it to cool down outside.

Around 10pm we made our way out for dinner and a night out on the town.

So many neon lights and sugary daiquiris had me feeling very playful and rambunctious

We slept in a tangled mess of each other's limbs all day and then had another night of childlike exuberance.

we even ended up winning $12 off of a penny slot!

On the drive home we were both happily exhausted and listened in quiet reflection to Tim Hecker's Harmony in Ultraviolet, and a recording of Haunted by Chuck Pahlahniuk.

Well that is all for me. Tell me what is new in your lives?

Until next time,

xoxo C.

Well I'm sure you have your dark moments, we all do. But it really does make other people feel good when you share the beauty. I'm sure it does wonders for you, too.

As for me, yes. Feeling a little blue lately.

Girl, I swear if you get any cuter, I might have a coronary! Just up and die up in this mutha! But don't worry about me, there's no way you can get any cuter. I'm declaring it impossible.

Oh and interesting you mention futurism. Last summer I took a class on Italian Futurism, in, ding ding ding ding! survey says? Italy! Yes the birth place of Italian futurism. I woke up every mourning for a month, climbed about a hundred stairs to get to my class room, which was this restaurant called Tre Gufi, which means 3 owls. From there we enjoyed a wonderful view of the Mediterranean, and then went inside to discuss the 45 pages of Marineti text we read the night before. We also read on Boccioni, Balla, and many others. In fact Boccioni and Balla didn't even accept the futurist photography movement to be apart of the futurist movement, they said it wasn't art, but was a useful tool to use for making paintings. But long story short. We ended our class in Florence, and while there we went to a Library that contained the original Marineti manuscripts. We were allowed to thumb through them all, and talk for hours about how fascinating everything was. They even let me take pictures, with out flash! I shall post them for you soon.

So yea, I'm glad your into that sort of thing. I would also say that Gerard Richter also took up this sort of futurist movement for a short time, after he did a take on Duchamps 'nude defending a staircase' and many other paintings that included sort of action lines that Boccioni talked about in his paintings.
