Stephanie Tamez -- Tattoo Artist Extraodinaire

I have an appointment with the amazing and marvelous and unbelievable Stephanie Tamez for tomorrow night! :::insert whimpers of wicked delight here:::

You can see her amazing work etched into my back:

Oh, and since you probably already guessed that I have a bit of a crush on her, she e-mailed me that she love the pictures from the subway set! I almost *almost* squealed...

This time around we're doing dogwood flower clusters underneath each of my clavicle bones. These are going to have hints of color in them. I'm so excited! Dogwoods, in addition to being the state flower of NC, mean "love undiminished by adversity." How can you not love that? All of my tattoos have very, very personal means. Unfortunately, the means are usually so personal that I don't tell people the truth when they ask me about them. For example, there is a reason there are 7 hearts on my body. There is a reason that I chose Proserpina to be my first tattoo...and it isn't just because I'm the world's biggest Bernini fan, although that is part of it.

New York Times Mess
So I'm sitting at the Last Supper (as we've dubbed it) at the rotating lounge The View at the top of the Marriott Marquis and at about 11pm I get a call from the NYTimes telling me that they're breaking the "program closing" story...in the morning paper...fuck...and yes, sitting on the train on my way in this morning, there it was...in black and white.

This was about two weeks sooner than we anticipated having to make a statement; send money back; deal with alumni; etc. It has been a mad house here all day. Reporters calling. Alumni e-mailing and calling. Mad house.

The Kills CD
The Kills CD, No Wow, it it rather intriguing. At times I find myself bopping along and ready to dance and at others it sounds kinda...just...there. I *always* give a CD the Three Listen Rule. I'll listen to it in it's entirety three times before I decide whether it is worth my ears or not. I'm leaning toward liking this album a good deal and I've only heard it once. Too early to tell for sure though.

Car
I'm now firmly thinking about cars. I want a PT Cruiser but I'm not sure that I can afford those kinds of payments. I feel entirely out of my element when it comes to even thinking about getting a car. This is when I realize that my parents were Right when they told me to get me a Sugar Daddy. wink

What Happens When Barbarella Gets Hungry
My Fella is gonna get the best din-din tonight. If I don't get washed away by the rainstorm that is threatening now. Beef and veggie stir-fry. Not exactly the healthy dinner that I'm sure Ms. Girlie will make for her and her man tonight...but my Fella loves my beef stir-fry and it looks like the weather calls for comfort food. Plus, I just like to spoil him.

The Go-Betweens Do Brooklyn
And if you didn't know, The Go-Betweens are playing Southpaw soon. The Mercury Lounge show is sold out.

I took this picture in Cozumel last year:

Just struck me as hilarious!

I miss my Ms. Alison, who is back in sticky Florida. BOOOO!!!

God, she's so beautiful! And just think, I got to sleep with her for a whole week in Scotland! :::wink::: Well, you know...

Me As A South Park Character

You can have one, too...

Reading
Finishing up My Last Chance To Be A Boy: Roosevelt's 1913-14 Exploration in Brazil and moving on to McCullough's new 1776, which got a kicking write up in the NYTimes Book Review on Sunday. Of course, They love McCullough...I'll give you the Real Story when I've read it.

Going Away Soiree
There will be a Bye-Bye Barbarella Soiree that I will be co-DJ with the awesome luna -- details TK soon.

:::going to drool at Banshee:::

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that your subway set is awesome. I'm sorry it was rejected. And I also loved your defense of your submissive side. Too often people think submissive = weak whatever Thanks for setting them straight.

At least you don't work for Newsweek. And if you need personal transportation, why not buy a hybrid?

You should totally do it! It pays great, and I really also just enjoy doing it. You usually pose for 20 minute sessions, and then break for 5 or 10 minutes, so you don't get too tired...it can be taxing on your muscles, depending on the pose. I would start looking at local art schools or universities if you're interested! kiss

just saw your scotland report - looks like you had a great time! Sadly I couldn't make it along to the meet (or piss up as we'd probably call it) frown Did you try any lovely whisky while you were over? Oh and that haggis you had looks kind of burnt.

your comment made absolute sense...thanks for reading my craziness. I think I've got to stop worrying about the past and concern myself with developing for the future ya know?

Also, I love my hairdresser and he owns the salon and everything but maybe it's my head, I just can't wear these 'do's past like 3 weeks. And for the money you pay at these places, my head should be gold plated.

smile How can you un-fry hair is what I want to know. Conditioner only goes so far.

I find that I don't perform as well as I'd like to on standardized tests. Like I had fantastic grades in HS but my SAT scores weren't too much to hoot about. All the smart kids were Nat'l Merits and I was like, FUCK I AM NOT A SMART KID. I also took the GRE senior year and it kicked my ass. Sigh. We'll see what happens. I am still banking on a job at your firm, of course wink.

i just saw that subway set and it's totally out of my mind why they refused it, it's SO beautiful! and by beautiful i really mean "full of beauty": you're beautiful, the colors are beautiful, the angles are beautiful... oh well.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who lies about the meaning of my tattoos! and to me they're so personal i wouldn't even be able to tell even if i wish anyway.

sweet dreams!
