It's officially summer in my books. I actually got in some sunbathing today (underneath my SPF that is), it was so hot! I have a little balcony that gets full sun, and I got off work early today (because I actually made it in on time), it was wonderful. I made myself a yummy smoothie, blew up my martini beach-pillow and read all the good parts of the new Vice mag. Pure heaven. Does anyone else have summer yet?

I went to the best show this weekend! I saw Embrace Today, this great HC band from Boston, and they played with Blue Monday, who are also really good. I haven't been to a good hardcore show in a long time, where everyone at the show is really into the music, and all the bands are great. It was all over too fast. And there were so many cute, stylish boys and girls there too, it was just like the old days. Not that I'm all fashioncore, but if you're going to be pressed up against people, it can't hurt if they're cute. Thanks for the great show guys!

Last night was the big night, I got to try out my kickboxing moves at a real live hardcore show. Ok, so I guess it wasn't a real hardcore show, just an all-ages show with my friend's hardcore band playing, but we threwdown all the same. It was a bit nuts though, as these young-uns at the show were big into the moshing, and I was hesitant to get into the pit as: 1. I didn't want to get hurt, and 2. I didn't want to hurt anyone else. For all the people thinking that kickboxing is more dangerous than moshing, I'll have you know that I was the one who got punched in the stomach twice (by the same guy) as I stood outside the pit enjoying the show. I think it just comes down to respect for the crowd, and you either care or you don't, right? All things considered, it was a great night. And I still have three days of holiday left!

I love holidays! I have a 5-day weekend, because of great work and stat holidays and all that. I didn't figure it out until yesterday, and now I don't know what to do with my time. I should do something fun, but what?

I went to my first barbeque of the season last night! Mmmm....tempeh burgers. It started getting a little cold when the sun went down, and then very cold, but we moved it inside after eating, so it was okay.

I can't wait for warm weather, I'm looking forward to spending the summer at the beach....swoon!

I spent most of this weekend working out in my garden. I love having a house, I was so sick of apartment living. I can't wait for summer, and seeing everything bloom.
I also watched two great movies: Aimee and Jaguar, a true love story of two women in Berlin during WWII, and Anchors Aweigh, with cute Gene Kelly and young Frank Sinatra, also set in the mid-40s. It was the perfect musical; Gene is a genius.

Kickboxing was so fun yesterday, and I'm not even that sore! I can't believe I remember how to do a cartwheel. We're going to practice again next week, and maybe soon I'll be able to do flips. I tried doing a front flip, but my hands slid on the mat and it felt like my shoulders did the splits...in a bad way.
I tried capoeira once, but it was too much for me (I lost far too much skin that day).
Oh, and don't worry, I'm all about shows without the violence, which is why I prefer kickboxing to moshing. Everyone in their own little space, freaking out to the music.

I'm so excited! Some friends and I have rented a community centre room for tomorrow to practice our kickboxing moves for hardcore shows. We're going to lay down tons of mats everywhere so we don't get hurt, and maybe, if I'm feeling especially nervy, I'll try some of those crazy flips I've seen kids doing. I hope I don't break my face, I could ruin my career, and that's not posi! Oh well....it'd be worth it, gotta support the scene, right?

Wow, what a great Friday! I can't believe my set went up so soon, I was preparing for a long wait. Thank you so much for all the great comments, it totally makes my day. I think I'm going to go shopping to celebrate.
