That's good advice that I'm sure a lot of members on this site could use. I like getting to know people that I think are cute, interesting, funny or even just have great stories in their blogs. I find that approaching someone online the way you would treat someone in a bar you just met works best. Start with mall talk, or say something clever or funny, but not vulgar. Obviously you aren't going to pull out your penis there so why would you think it's okay to do it online. It's actually way easier to get to know someone here as compared to a bar if you go about it respectfully.
