Hey Everyone. Thanks for the birthday wishes - I was spending it in New York City!
This is the best thing I've read all week.
I've been so out of the loop recently - kinda stuck in my insular world. Tell me something new and exciting about what's going on in your world and help me catch up!

Ever wonder what would happen if they needed to tell the origin story of three simple olympic mascots, but the narrator could only use animation and dropped 3 tabs of acid before doing so?

Meet the 2010 mascots.
Seriously. It's messed up.

You know, I have actually been around.
I just haven't really had much to post about.
So I'm going to simply tell you to go and buy a copy of jpod. It's an amazing book by the genius Douglas Coupland.
Probably one of the best meta-works out there, and especially interesting if you're remotely tech-savy or were the smart but under-stimulated one in school.

What's this? A new post?
This post is actually going to be solely about UFC 84 this Saturday. If you're not into MMA, you can stop reading right now. At least you know I'm still alive.
My predictions/hopes:
Penn Vs. Sherk Lightweights have little-man syndrome. It's true. Sherk is no exception. And he can't deny that there were steroids in his blood when he tested (he did, however, blame EVERYONE, including his coach, his nutritionist and his sponsor, the now defunct Xyience). The gaps between ALL his teeth tell the story of the HGH he's been using (your head grows, but your teeth don't.) He's a performance-enhancing substance user. And he won't win. I wasn't a fan of Penn when he showed up to his St. Pierre fight with the belt around his waist looking like a gummy-bear, but he been hot since his Pulver fight, and he's refocused. I'd love to see Penn punch those gapped teeth out of Sherk's face, but I'm betting it's going to be his signature monkey-feet rear-naked choke in the third.
Ortiz vs. Machida Ortiz doesn't want to be a fighter anymore. For fuck's sake, he DID THE APPRENTICE. Next stop on the has-been train: The Surreal Life. Or Dancing with the Stars. He's going to join retired life with his girlfriend after Machida knocks him out in the second round.
Silva vs. Jardine The Dean of Mean has a chin about as strong as my mother's. Seriously. And Silva can take a licking from the likes of Hendo and and keep on tickin'. It'll be a great fight to watch, but Jardine is going to get caught, If Silva keeps with inside uppercuts from the clinch, where Jardine's reach won't be an issue, he should be able wear him out. I'm going to go with the safe bet and say Silva by decision because I have a feeling this fight will look an awful lot like the Liddell fight. With that said, I deeply hope the Silva that beat Rampage will show up and knock Jardine's head off.
Gouviera vs Reljic This could be a fantastic clinic on great submission wrestling. Or Gouviera will knock Reljic's head off - he's got a KO from his last fight and in general UK fighters have weaker chins.
Finally Silva vs. Mendes. Thiago Silva is the easy bet. He's a got Huston Alexander's hands but not his chin (thank goodness). Mendes hasn't even seen the octagon. Ref stoppage in the second round for Silva.
That's it. Ya'll can ream me out for calling things wrong Saturday Night. If you're in Calgary, I'll probably be stopping in with my BJJ club at Mile 1, so stop by and we can bet some drinks on my calls.

So I'm making a commitment to myself to post on here at least once a week.
That, and the one thing that defines a micro-celebrity from a traditional celeb is that they ACTUALLY CARE about their audiences - there's an immediate and intimate relationship between the two.
.
OK Kids - it's time to get your pirating gear out of the closet.
This week I'd like to tell you to download a CBC Bit Torrent. ESPECIALLY if you're ISP is Bell or Rogers, here in Canada.
The CBC is distributing a show called "Canada's Next Great Prime Minister" on in torrent form.
Why? Well, the show is ok, and the political message is interesting, but more than that it is a way we can fight traffic throttling (particularly by Bell, but also by other ISPs in this country).
The CBC uses Canadian taxpayer dollars to create content. Because of this they are therefore mandated to distribute that content as as easily and efficiently as they can to all Canadians. It's ours.
If you are trying to download the content your money create but your ISP is throttling your download speed because of the TYPE of files, despite the fact that is free, legal and your right as a taxpayer, the CRTC will most likely step in and force these ISPs to stop throttling traffic.
BTW, most internet bandwidth is consumed via immediate streaming content (i.e. Youtube) and NOT Torrents, which make up about 30% of all internet traffic.
Download it already!
PS - it's actually a pretty interesting show. I've debated with Rahim Maloo, and despite his dismal showing, he's quite brilliant. All the same, his politics just don't resonate with me.

Yeah - real world kidnapped me for a little while.
I can't promise it won't do it again.
That said, I think I'll try my hand at that video making thing in the meantime, so stay tuned...

So I got into a free early screening of Hot Rod last evening.
To be honest, I thought that the previews were going to the best parts of the movie, put into a 3 minute trailer.
Boy, was I very very very wrong. It is, by far, one of the funniest movies I have seen this year. I've never seen such a fantastic parody of movie cliches. Like Hot Fuzz, with more slapstick. Take the meta-movie wit of Shaun of the Dead, thrown in the physical comedy of Dodgeball and the fantastically shocking one-liners of Talladega Nights, and you've got Hot Rod.
Believe me when I say the previews are NOT the best part of this movie.
Hell, I'd watch it again. And pay, which is more than I can say for Napoleon Dynamite.

To the owners of puppy/kitty-milled, half-breed, "12 equal payments OAC" petstores:
Please choke on some cat poop.

One of the women I work with looked at me a couple days ago and said, "You know, if I had a child your age, I'd like them to be like you." She's one of the younger people in my group, around her 40s. It felt rather strange.

My newest cat sleeps like the dead. I can literally pick up one of his paws and drop it, ala WWE style, and he'll not at all stir. I think I'll take a video of it next time.

I've recently joined a local Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu club. I miss combat sports and love going to class.

That's all folks. Until the next time I can't sleep...
