My ordinary, lazy day turned into a disaster, thanks to me being ignorant. I'm indirectly guilty for the death of four helpless kittens and I'm angry at myself, SPCA and pretty much the whole world right now.
A family friend discovered a packet with four abandoned kittens earlier today, and gave me a call, as I'm the crazy cat lady in the family. They were tiny, maybe a week old. I couldn't keep them, not just because of my two grown kitties, but because I had no food to give them and they were starving. So I did what I thought was the right thing and phoned the SPCA. Right thing my ass! After signing all the papers and legally giving the little guys to them, the lady told me that the kittens will unfortunately have to be put down. They have no weaning facilities and can't do anything for them. I just stood there, dumbstruck.
Long story short, I should've known better. There's a reason no-kill shelters exist, I just stubbornly refused to believe that SPCA aren't always the good guys. Yeah, they do a lot of good, and humane death will be more merciful for those kittens than suffocating in a plastic packet, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I just should've known better. I already knew that they put down thousands of healthy animals due to the lack of space and resources, but I always told myself that it's necessary, as horrible as it is. I'm not so sure anymore...Surely volunteers could be provided with necessary food and knowledge to take care of the little ones. But I guess that's just too much effort for some...
Anyway, it's too late now. Just don't repeat my mistake and give animals to SPCA before you have made sure that they won't be put down for no good reason. There are plenty of other people and places that will take them in if you can't keep them.
And burn in hell disgusting, sorry excuses for human beings who abandon their pets!

*end of rant*
