I was supposed to write a nice, happy blog today, but no can do. Yesterday while we were at a friends' house, someone broke into our flat and stole my laptop. I basically lost all my music, photos and most importantly, all my work stuff. The fucker who stole it squeezed through the tiniest little window, scared the shit out of the cats (they were still hiding when we came home) and helped themselves to two lovely MacBooks. Luckily, they didn't turn on the lights and notice the iPad that was on a book with a black cover next to one of the laptops. We had the cops here this morning and a detective came by, but I'm sure they'll never find the bastards or the laptops. So rest in peace my dear computer, hopefully I'll replace you with something even better soon. And I hope that the bastard who stole you gets his balls caught on the barbed wire of the next place he tries to rob. *sulk*

Mac books, did you have an iCloud account? If so you can find or wipe them remotely.
You need a Canadian cop on the case. Just saying.....
Sorry about your luck miss. frown

Oh god, that sucks. My mums had her garage broken into a while back, and it frustrates me still, and makes me so so angry, that the assholes were never caught.
Something like a computer must be worse as it has so much memories and personal, important stuff on it.
Gah. This is when I have to believe in karma.

That is the worst news ever. I'm chatting up the karma police and seeing what they can do about the nut sack and barbed wire fence for you.

that's a terrible experience! eeekfrown
as an ex-cop I suggest:
1. bar the window and get good deadlocks for your external door(s). chances of being hit again are, unfortunately, high.
2. next computer also get Lo-Jack which, like I-cloud will not only let you wipe the computer remotely but lock it so that it's unusuable. it might just locate it as well.
3. check back with the cops in a while; they will forget things.

it is a very unpleasant violation - when I was robbed, the robbers were still in the act when we got home. *that* was scary, and the place never quite felt the same. frown

Oh honey, I am sooo sorry. I know how it sucks to get all your stuff stolen. My house has been broken into as well. Ever since, my dogs have always had the run of the house while I'm gone. I used to put them in the basement if I'd be gone for a little while. So the obvious answer is to train your cats to be ferocious, drooling watchcats! Or perhaps you can lure one of the monkeys into your home and ply him with bananas until he becomes your watch monkey...howling and flinging poo at any would be intruder! Hope I made you smile for just a sec at least, and I'm sorry again for the break-in

Sorry to hear that . Theiving scum, damn. Wish I could lay my hands on them. Fuckers.

At least you are okay. Will send up a few words to the gods of barbed wire fences. Swift intervention is needed.

Hope you are insured frown

I once got stuff stolen from inside my room, at the foot of my bed while I was asleep in the room! Sigh, criminals suck

sorry to hear that. i know the feeling.
my apt got broken into a few months ago. apparently someone was scouting my home and knew my work hours and patterns, and worst of all it was a bum, took my favorite shoes and left his raggedy shoes in front of my closet. he made out with 2 digital cameras, my psp, all my watches and my rent money.
anyways, hope you feel better and have luck finding the fucker.

Yes, my position is safe.

Celia is probably about the same, weight-wise. She did alert me to a mouse inside a box with some old computer bits I need to recycle in my front entry way Friday night. Rather than taking the whole box outside, I removed some of the stuff and attempted to scoop it into a jar. Of course, it managed to jump out and get away. We had it cornered under the molding and behind a cabinet on one side of the room for a bit, but we eventually lost track of it. I found a hole from rotten wood next to the door frame that went all the way into the crawl space underneath, so that is probably where it came in. I sealed the hole up for now. Replacing the floor in the entry is on my list of things to do when I feel like spending a lot of money on my house again.

Glad you still have the ipad to visit us.
